I recently picked up a 5 speed trans from an 85 2WD pickup to swap into my 86 2WD (reverse was grinding, speedo didnt work, worn out, etc). Got the trans installed last night, everything went flawlessly, however, the location to mount the trans mount on the 85 trans is further forward, and does not line up with the trans support bracket. For now, I plan to just modify the bracket to make it work - but my question is, was the mount plate or trans crossmember different in the 85? Can I go to the dealer and get the trans mount plate from an 85 and make it work? I truly thought this would just drop in. I suppose i could swap the tail shaft portion of the tranny, but I would then lose the speedo functionality as well. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
