started working on the doors and inner trim panels .. got the inner of the doors cleaned up , and just about ready to prime .. also started on the trim panel
started with a flat sheet of fiberglass

marked it and trimed it to fit
I was going to have it 2 seperate pieces , like the stock panel , but my "mid speakers are to big
... there is a small "step" in the door panel anyway .. so cutting it and re glassing it will achieve a perfect fit with NO rattles .

starting the "mock up" for speaker location

There are a lot of installs that are placing them on the A pillars to bring the soundstage up, or even high in the door on the sailpanel.

I would disagree in this case. You're going to end up firing your highs into the side of your seat and you're going to block your right side with the passenger's seat.

From: Yotatech, because Pirate is too expensive. NorCal.
As longs as they are both the same distance from your ear (mid/tweet) they should be fine. And even having mid down low and tweet high on the door panel you wont hurt enough to make a difference. I actually prefer mine up high, ive noticed in cars with it down low I can move my legs around and make it sound different.
Up high there is nothing blocking the path to your ear. I would rather have both my mids and highs AT head level. But I have not yet found a car that its possible in. lol

Are you using chassi black on top of the POR 15. I have heard it said POR 15 will turn white if exposed to the UV light. Just asking because I have POR 15 drying on my bumper right now, but dont have any chassi black to go over it yet. I guess if it does start to turn white, I'll just clean it, 400 grit and some black over it.

I think that all depends on the vehicle and obviously personal choice of music .. some vehicles are more sound proof then others , and outside noise will cause wave interferance .
this pic (from the site Rob posted) shows the mids and tweeters on the floor pointed up ... exactly what I'm going to do .

I'm also packing/lining the truck with "sound proofing" ... so the sound waves should flow nicely ..

I did a "test" on my rusty rear bumper on my /86 a couple of years back .. just to see what would happen ..
i think it has been 2 years now .. and it is just turning "flat" black now .. and there is 1 or 2 rust spots popping threw ..
thing is .. I did absolutly NO prep .. didnt even clean the dust/dirt off .. I just had some left overs .. so I used it
I love the stuff !!!!!

I love your build thread and its just down right the best i have read so far. When i get into a little more cash flow im going to hopefully start something on my own 4Runner
.
I love your ideas, and liberal use of fiberglass! Now... just to get it done! lol Good luck, and i have subscribed for the last bit of the long haul.

got a little work done on the door panels the last few days .. building the speaker enclosures has been the most time consuming , but should pay off in the long run .
Instead if just cutting a hold in the door and mounting the speaker on top , I wanted to "enclose" the speaker in it own "pod" so the sound coming out of it is just that much better .. so I was thinking on how to do this .. building custom moulds would take to long .. and i'm really wanting to press on !!!!
so I decided to start looking for a mould already build which I could utalize .. started pulling bowls out of the cupbords and measureing for size , looking at all kinds of things I could use , even went to wallmart and searched for aplicapble forms . I ended up going to the dollar store , and finding a perfect size plastic dog dish for $1.50 and a smaller cat dish for $1.25 .
started making my pieces ..
so I have 4 mids and tweeters going in .. 2 front 2 rear .
I needed 6 bigger pieces , and 4 smaller pieces ..

so after I figure the speaker placement .. started to fit it all together .. cut the door metal to fit the "pods" and glassed the rear portion into place

cut down and prepped the new set of moulded pieces to fit the speakers

and all mocked up

ready for some foam and leather to finish !!!
should rock
