TPF racing's '04 tacoma build! Picture heavy!

I certainly dont claim to be an expert on any of it as I have zero first hand knowledge, just regurgitating what I read others who I assume do have experience have said. I know that the majority of the unlimited car/truck guys are wearing them but again its hard to tell how effective they are in preventing injuries.
I think how effective they actually are and how people perceive them are two different things though, and that's why I think the time will come when they are mandated. From a liability stand point race organizers are going to increasingly look to cover their own butts and I think the neck restraint business is one of the things they are going to have to jump on to demonstrate that they are promoting safety as much as they can.
The idea of them being cumbersome and awkward is the part that scares me to be honest. I'm most worried about being upside and/or a little disoriented after a hard crash and having to deal with unbuckling, getting unhooked from everything, and navigating my way out of the truck. Or worse if one of the two people in the truck is unable to get out on their own.

Thanks for the compliment! It's appreciated and I'm glad you enjoyed the thread! It's neat for me to look back and see how my last 7 months of spare time has been spent and now fun is an understatement!!!!

We kinda staged this to give people that really don't know the difference in stock and what we've done an idea. This is a completely stock 4wd chevy colorado on I think 30" bfg AT's and basically we asked him to run thru the section as fast as he was comfortable to push his truck without breaking it and I tried to put a pass on him as close to the camera as possible for an idea of speed differences. It's hard to judge the approaching speed though to time it right.

That was a friend of ours. Right now we're not tweaking with anything on it. More focused on just getting everything left on the list right now finished up for race day. We'll race it as it is and our gut feeling is it's already fast enough for the class we're in. When you actually get in the truck and ride in it, it's hard to imagine a similarly built truck to the class rules going as fast as we are but till race day we won't know. I don't think the truck will actually get driven between now and race day other then maybe around the block a couple times or something. At this point it's just knocking out the to do list and getting it fully prepped. It's actually already completely stripped down and the interior might even come out of it tonight. What else would you be doing on xmas eve? LOL
You know the funny part is we're going about twice the speed a stock truck will and we've spend X amount on the truck. But then to go twice the speed we're going thru that same section it's going to cost you roughly 10X whats been spent right now. Not joking or exaggerating at all. It's kinda like drag racing where you can build something to go pretty damn fast for a decent amount of money but you eventually hit this point where to make it start going even faster the price starts to sky rocket exponentially! We're right at that threshold where to really pickup the speed now the price tag is going to be like hitting fast forward on a movie!

Couple door bars, cut out the stock transmission crossmember/mount and fab up a new one. Need to do some more clean up inside the cab with wiring and one other wiring project to get the audio from the intercom to record on the in car camera. Also have some body work to do up front fixing a cracked part of the grill, cutting out the gills in the hood and I want to get the fitment from grill to hood better to clean up that gap on the drivers side before it gets all prettied up in a couple weeks. I also need to go thru and basically loctite 100% of everything I can get my hands on on the truck. Also need to swap out the rear wheel studs. Figure out for now how to tie down a first aid kit, tool kit, safety triangle and water/snacks. Off the top of my head, that's it... All needs to be done by Sunday Jan 6th.

Always get my ass kicked by video editing, even the simple stuff. But should have something put together in the next few days. In the meantime, had a blast last week in the truck, was great to finally get back in it after over two years of waiting. Handles a bit differently than the city bus I ride to work every day. I am 100% sure that I will be the truck's weakest link. We put it to the test on a lot of rough, recently used race course and the truck performed amazingly. No real frame of reference for how fast we can/should go, just drove the truck to the limit that I felt comfortable but I'm confident that its capable of a lot more than that.
Can't say enough about Khris and all the hard work he put in all summer to get us to this point. We wouldn't be able to do this without him and his attention to detail and effort are reflected in the trucks durability and performance. He built us a truck that can really take a beating and it's everything I hoped it would be when we started this two years ago. Thanks also to everyone who has helped us get what we need along the way, especially Serena at SDHQ. Serena has consistently gone above and beyond to get us what we needed. With a one man crew working after hours, time was critical for us and thanks to Serena we never had to wait for a single part. It's a pleasure to do business with a company with so many great people that does so much for the off road community.
Thanks also to Matt at MCM Fab for delivering a front kit that has exceeded our expectations. Thanks also to Fiberwerx and Scott Bridges with ReplayXD for helping us get the gear we needed. Thanks to Adams Driveshaft and Best Muffler Shop in Las Vegas for the quick turnarounds on labor to help keep us on track. And finally, thanks to all our friends who've offered a hand, trailer, and tow to get us where we needed to be. We wouldn't be able to do any of this without you guys and I am sincerely grateful for the help!
Can't wait for January, see you in Jean!
