Doing my own thing, kind of. I am building a formula four (4 seater) and using all the running gear out of my truck. So it will have a 4.3L, 700r4, toy case, and toy axles. I will be running RUFs up front and 4" after market springs in the rear that will be in-boarded. All on a long bed first gen frame. Now I just have to build it.... So see everyone on the trail in four years lol

I couldn't stand looking at my 4Runner with the stock wheels and tires, so it was time to get to work!

You can see the mark where the tire hit the inside corner of the flare, that was just test fitting the tires in the shop.

I trimmed back the flair and this is what I had to work with. I wanted the flairs to look as close to stock as possible.

I cut back to the fender mounting holes and capped the hole with 16 gauge sheet metal. I made everything as smooth as possible so if the tires does rub a little it won't hurt anything.

No tubbing, just a little trimming (or massaging ). It still might rub a little when the tires are turned and stuffed, but everything is smooth so it's not a big deal. I can always cut more later.

Thanks! Pictures coming soon...

I ditched the stock bumpers to clear the tires, but I couldn't stand the stock frame horns and I needed a starting point for my front bumper. I also wanted some protection until I can get the time to build the front bumper.

Stock

I cut off the frame horns and picked up some 2x3" 3/16" steel. I used some scrap 1/4" plate for the end caps and gussets.

I wish it was time for bumpers, but I need to get the rest of the mechanical stuff wrapped up before I start on that. I also need to wheel it a few times and make sure everything clears. Before I can really wheel it I want my Budbuilt skid plates installed, and I have a whole list of little stuff that I want to do before I install the skids.

Not yet! If I ever SAS it I will use links/coilovers like Scotty and Erik's rigs.

It's hard to tell how it drives with the defective wheels on it, they really throw off the balance of the tire and make it like an egg. When I hit about twenty the tire start to howl "whoop...whoop...whoop" and I get vibration through the whole vehicle. A little faster and it starts to even out, but then it get worse again as the tire vibration starts to resonate through the suspension. It's pretty much like a beat up set of Swampers.

The gears and lockers came in on Monday (they have been staring at me for two days now), I bought built differentals from East Coast Gear Supply. I went with 5.29's, ARB locker in the front and the factory E-locker in the rear. It really gets around a lot better than I thought it would, you can feel the differance but the supercharger helps a lot. It's going to be fun with the new gears!
