98 4 runner slow and mild build

bought this 1998 limited 4runner in march. it was old man owned pretty awesome shape! its a 3.4, Auto, e-locker, 178,000 miles, set of crappy road tires and a basically new set of blizzaks( i live in Alaska roads don't get salted and are ice 6+ months out of the year). The leather seats were destroyed by the cold so it got sr5 seats put into it. Wife's Ford is about to get sold.... i treated it like a 3/4 ton and have basically destroyed the tranny. So this old girl is gonna be hers she wants its more or less stock with a few minor things. this is basically for me to remember what I've done and what i need to do.

Things that i need to do

-breaks heading into needing done. Tundra swap maybe?
-running boards need to come off i just haven't done it yet
- timing set and water pump -just rolled 190,000 its time
-plugs and wires
-diff service
-elocker mod
-find limited seats
-mod the 4wheeler trailer it need storage so i don't have to load and unload all my hunting gear.

Things already done

oil 2x
tranny fuild
center console with the cupholders swapped in
drove it like i stole it last 6 months she just keeps running

pics to come

had the timing belt done last week at 190,000 miles. she runs so much better now. the stealership also wanted to do ball joints and axle seal i refused to let them so now I'm looking at a full front end rebuild. the way i figure it if I'm going to have to have a alignment ill go ahead and do all ball joints and tie rod ends. Any recommendations for brands of parts to go with/stay away from?

Oem on the ball joints and stuff, especially the ball joints. Beck Arnley has nice steering rack boots if you need them. Stay away from Moog IMO. Google up 3rd gen lower ball joint failures for a fun little education. Consider Steering rack bushings while you're in there, but only if needed of course.

I'm a little confused as to axle seal...which one(s)?

Ford trannies....yeah, no. If you hadn't done it injustice it would've without your help. When's the last time they had decent trannies, pre-80's? Pre-Mazda/Mitsubishi?

Habenero hows it going in mo? I'm moving back there in late 2017 leaving uncle sam to be MR. Tyler again. I'm from Bolivar. i had planned on oem ball joints but had planned on using probably duralast for the tie rod ends since they are 555 rebranded to save some money. i have oem rear axle seals in the garage now i picked em up while i was in town. The so called "leak" was a small amount of seepage literally size of a dime inside the brake drum on one side a quarter on the other. must have damaged it slightly last month when it was -25ish out side. As to the Ford it was great for the 45000 miles i owned it. up to the point where i tried to unstick a sequoia that was framed out in muskeg(nasty think swamp tundra muck) after that it didn't like to shift from 3-4 after prolonged running at 45-50ish and it was getting worse so i dumped it and bought here a 14 camry that thing gets 38+ on the highway and rides smooth as silk great desision on that buy. my uncle has the same truck uses it everyday pulling a 12 ft trailer plumbing it has 230000 on original motor/tranny so i think it was more opreator error not the truck i loved it. but i beat the living crap out of it.

MO is still MO! There's a 4x club around and 3rd gens are slowly transitioning away from soccer mom-mobiles. At least in this neck of the woods they are. Really, Ford trannies are known issues, many of them, so only beat yourself up a little bit over yours.

Sounds like you've got a good plan on the suspension bits. You've likely already checked to make sure your rear diff breather isn't clogged?
