the thing about the bags below the bumpstops is that theysoften the suspension cycles as it tries to bottom out. the conical bumpstop is cut off so it's shorter, and then it has a soft, expandable bag under it, so when you hit a bump and the axle goes up, it compresses the bag into the bumpstop, creating a soft touch compared to the normal version that is a steel plate hitting a hard rubber bump stop. you can only imagine the difference in feel of the rear suspension. i promise that if you add bags, you'll love them and won't want to go back.

It looks like there were some inconsistencies with the recall coils. Back when I had my 97 I was towing a 19' boat pretty regularly and there was a distinct difference in how much it sagged after the recall. So as far as I was concerned it helped. I guess my point was that if he wants to keep his stock ride height, there is a possibility of a much cheaper ($Free.Fifty-Free) option than aftermarket coils.

I have had the Airlift (w/compressor) airbags for over 5 years and would definitely recommend them. Stock cushy ride when at 5 psi and level loaded truck (even when loaded down for camping w/4 people for a week...) at 30 psi. IIRC, with mostly empty truck and 30 psi, I get about 1" lift in rear (and a very stiff ride...).

When I owned my 97 4Runner I had the recall completed and there was a distinct difference in ride quality when the change was made.

I don't have the TSB number in front of me but you should be able to call them with your VIN to see if you can get it worked.
TSB #: SU002-98. I'm familiar with that recall. I'm sure my 4R had undergone this recall since it already has the "hollow spring" (as the tsb called it) inside the coil.

Thanks for all the inputs, brodass! From these I've decided to try the airbags. I'd like to follow Bamachem setup recommendation and see how it gonna come out with my street queen. Found Airlift 1000 to be $66.88 @ summitracing which IMO, a reasonable price. It would be nice to get a permanent 1" lift all around but I gonna save that plan for the future.

Yotatech Rocks.....always!!!
