Thumbs up XM Satellite radio ROCKS!!!

HAD to get a new stero system due to the factory goin south on me. I went ahead and purchased the XM Satellight Radio while the installation was free.

All I can say is may never have to purchase another CD again to hear new tunes.

I got the Alpine CDA-7894 unit, Infinity speakers with an Alpine 12" sub and amp. Sounds great too.

I had the sub boxed so I can un hook it and take it out very easily for hauling things.

Needless to say I am vry happy.

We put the Satellite box in the storage compartment on the left as you stand looking into the rear window and mounted the antenna on the top of the truck just in front of the rear window and the air deflector. You can't even see it.

NOW!!

Yeah, I was thinking about getting that myself. I heard on the radio that Best Buy was installing it for free. But what does it cost per month to get? Is there any other fees? Thanks! :fireman:

There is a monthly cost of $9.99 per month and a one time activation fee.

Activation fee is $9.99 if you activate online or $14.99 if you call their 1-800 #.

You can check it out online at xmradio.com

You can also get it for your home as well, separately of course.

Also if you get the FM modulated unit you will be able to move it from the truck to your home stereo, (back and forth as you wish), and pay only one monlthly $9.99 fee after activation.

Better use for your money.

If you want commercial free, you need to go with Siruis satelite radio - which is what I'm considering since my head unit is "Sirius ready". It cost $12.95 a month.

XM has about six minutes of commercials per hour total.

I haven't timed it but, I have yet to notice the commercials.

I was in walmart playing with it the other day. I think its a great idea having the news, weather, etc. Right there would be the selling point for me because since school started I hardly have time to do anything and I find I spend more time in my car then anything lately. It would be nice to make some good use of that time. Knowing the weather, listening to the news, instead of the same cd for about 1-2hours that I spend in my car a day.

Besides the XM component, what do you think about the 7894? Do you suffer from the infamous CD buzz at low volumes? That is the only thing keeping me getting that headunit.

Also, are you using the Headunit's internal amp for the Infinity speakers?

Sounds like a nice setup (no pun intended)

7894

I've got that unit. It's been good to me so far. No buzz (?) at all.

I haven't tried using it with satellite radio yet.

I have turned the internal amp off and am using it with an MTX to power a pair of JL components and a pair of JL 8" subs.

Love those 4v. RCA outputs and MP3.

No buzz here. Just good clean sound.

I am using the internal amp to drive the 4" front, 5 1/4" back infinitys, and the factory tweeters above the rear window also.

I have a 100 watt amp driving the 12" Alpine sub in a box in the rear also.

No complants either.

I was just wondering about this , over here we have a new system that is just being introduced called D.A.B swhich is digital audio broadcast but i have also seen satallite radios and i think there must be a difference , i am sure the dbas is free and i thimk that the satallite radio is free as well but i have never seen a head unit that will do it and the dabs have yet to make it to portable at a price that is not extortion.
how much did you pay for the head unit?

Skydigger & Land yacht - that's good to hear that you don't hear the buzz with your 7894s.

If you don't know what I am talking about read this thread from highwaymp3.com

interesting

I guess I haven't really put my ear to the speaker with the volume at 1 to test it. I'll give it a try when I have the time.

I don't think it'd bother me by the sounds of it anyway. It sounds like it's way below the noise floor (ambient noise) to even worry about but I'll check it out.

Thanks for the link,

Warren

Yeah, I rarely drive with my ear pressed to the speaker at with the volume at 1

I just wanted to know how much of any issue it really is and how annoying is it in real world driving (i.e. stop and go etc)

sat radio

Hey,

I'm not a user myself but here's my take,

Both Sirius and XM have multiple stations (genres) to choose from. News, weather, and all types of music. You don't choose the tunes the DJ does!! You choose from the many stations.

Sirius has no commercials so it's a little more expensive monthly.

Check out their web sites man.
