Found some info that might help you out. It's PDF so you'll need Adobe Acrobat to view it.
www.net-impress.com/4runner/cd/F_BASIC2.PDF

If that link doesn't work, do a search for "4Runner Coil problem" and look for the link that says, "F - Basic testing - 3.0".

According to Haynes, 6 blinks = RPM Signal with possible trouble areas of:
1. Igniter circuit
2. Igniter
3. Distributor
4. Computer

I am not aware of a test for the igniter.

Hi all, I am having the same problem ans same symptoms as Headhunter, i've tested the efi main relay, open circuit relay.

I have nice spark at the plugs but nothing coming from the igniter plug with the three wires that feed the ECU, ie. the black and red, black and white and black and yellow. I notice thta there is no pulse at the injectors and from looking at the schematic on all data I see that the black and red seems to feed the injectors I may be wrong.

My question is should i get any voltage coming out of the igniter plug when the key is on and when the engine is cranking over? I am not clear on this one.

The cold start timing switch and injector check out fine and the engine starts just momentarily from the small amount coming from the cold start injector. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks TC.

88 4 runner bush buggy
87 4 runner great shape dont run.

Man, is this an old thread.
The problem turned out to be the ignition coil. I checked the secondary voltage against spec, and it was way out. Replaced the coil and she fired up instantly.
