Wiring up fogs?

Hi, I am in the process of putting a 99 front bumper assembily on my 98 limited. I have everything welded up and wired up, except for the foglights. Does anybody know how these should be wired up because I don't currently have fogs on my 98. Do they need any special relay or anything? I would like to use a factory fog switch with the install. Thanks in advance, Josh.

Josh,
you should first check if you have an existing wire harness for the fogs (You should see a 'spare' connection hanging around the head lights). I had it on my 99 SR5 so I used that.

Silverrunner99,
I checked and don't see anything, I don't think that fogs were an option on a 98, where they were option on the 99.

Anybody else have any ideas?

I thought the Limited's were prewired and came with fog lights as standard equipment. Am I wrong? My 2000 SR5 had the wiring so when I bought the kit all I had to do was install the lamps and brackets, plug in the existing wiring harness to the lamps, wire the switch to the harness under the steering column and install the switch in the dash plus plug the relay into the relay box.

I am pretty sure that that is only on 99 on, can someone verify this?

You are correct. 96-98 were not pre-wired. Does your 99+ bumper have fogs in it?

You can run a two wire connection with your own switch and mount it anywhere in the cab (usually extra panels near the left hand steering wheel). Just make sure you run an inline fuse. Unless your going for a factory look that is.......

My bumper has the fogs in it. I bought it as an assembly off of a 99 limited. They even left about 1 ft of wire connected to the ends of the fogs.

Agent7 - Using a two wire connection will not hurt the fogs at all? Most of the time I have wired aftermarket fogs there was 3 wires going to the switch? I know that there are only two wires coming out of the fogs (positive and negative) would you just run those in a series to a toggle switch. Also I would really like to keep the factory look, so I don't have any idea what kind of wiring needs to go to that. Anybody have any other suggestions.

Thanks
Josh

The tird wire is for the Accessory to illuminate the switch on the inside of the cab... it's not really nessessary if you have a switch without illumination. Therefore as long as you use the pos and neg wires and run an inline fuse... you will be good to go.

4Runner Wire Harness

You can use this harness. It's complete and pre-wired with relay, Illuminated switch, plug-in light connectors, Bolt for fastening the relay to the body, and inline fuse. Fully loomed.
If you have or are getting the factory fogs its a simple plug and play.

I used this to hook up some Hella 500s on a Tacoma with safari bar, only modification was to change the connections at the lights. Cut the plug-in connectors and crimped on some female terminals. Yellow wire to #3 on switch, Black wire to #4 on switch, wired a jumper from #2 on switch to the fuse box under the dash at ignition. Lights comes on when I want them to.
Quick and neat.

He has these pretty regularly, told me he had bought out old Toyota part numbers
