Windshield removal tools

Hello,

Which tool is better for removing a front windshield in terms of speed and ease? Is it the one with two dowels and piano wire, or the one pictured below? Does the one pictured increase the chance of breakage? BTW, the windshield is secured with urethane. Thanks for any info.

I've seen countless windshields removed at the junkyard with just piano wire and two seatbelt pieces tied at both ends.

Maybe some "professionals" use that tool you posted a pic of, but it can be tricky if you haven't been trained/practiced on using it. I'd go with the piano wire and dowels/seatbelt pieces tied at both ends. Probably alot cheaper this way too. You just have to pierce through the urethane to get the wire through the other side that's all. I've seen some people use a propane torch to heat the object they use to pierce through the urethane to get the piano wire in through the other side.

I'd highly recommend having a professional glass shop do the install though because it's a important safety item. You don't want the winshield flying off the vehicle if you're ever involved in an accident for some reason.
