Go to a 'glass shop' that carries PPG glass. It's the same as OEM, but without the TOYOTA words on it. Make sure the shop puts the exact TOYOTA seal on when replacing. I've replaced mine twice already. With my ins. comp deductible, I only pay 50 bucks. (Rock chip damage). Good luck.

Man, that's crazy... it costs more for stock running boards than a new windshield! 500 bucks is less than I would expect, but I've never had to buy a windshield before.

I might be wrong but I think I ran into this "Exact Toyota Seal" with my Rav4. They put in a windshield but the seal/gasket was different. Hard to explain...the sides of the Toyota seal were taller and acted as a rain gutter. You could visibly see a lip there, the one they put in was a flush seal like the rear 1/4 windows. With the wrong seal it leaked like a screen door in a rain storm. I found out the possible problem through a board like this. I went back and had them put the Toyoya seal on and it never leaked again.

The seal is the rubber trim going around the windshield. Beavah had the same problem I did. Glass shops like to go cheap and put a flat generic molding (trim) on replaced glass. The OEM has a taller profile with the rain gutter. On my last replacement, those bozo's reused my old trim and it looked like crap. I made 'em take it off and install a new one. It must be a pain vs. the flat generic 'cause the OEM will look crappy if not installed perfectly, yeah, I had to make 'em redo it...again! I advise you to contact your insurace co. to see how much more it is to LOWER your deductible. I dropped my comp from 500 to 50 bucks, my collision from 500 to 250, and my premium only went up 20 bucks...I'd say it's worth it.

butnut, i would but the thing is that my parents pay for insurance now...so i dunno how they would feel about a premium hike...if all else fails i may just shell out the money myself...but i will make sure the exact toyota seal is used...i dont want leakage..

How hard would it be to do it yourself? Buy the glass and the trim. I realize there are risks involved but i mean it can't be too much. The reason why I ask is cause the pickup i'm 95% sure I'm getting (5% is just cause I don't know if the guy selling it is going to crap out on me and not sell it to me) has a crack in the windshield...

I tried installing a windshield. Not fun. I think it was harder to take out then put the new one in. Without the proper tools you are looking at cutting your dashboard up, windshield pillars, ect.
For me I will pay to have someone do it.

There is a lot of stuff I will do myself...installing a windshield is definately not one of them...best left to a pro shop. Good luck on that truck.

heh yeah the longer I thought about it the more difficult it was looking. Hopefully I can get the guy to replace it before I get it in August (he still needs to move stuff out of storage into his house).
