I did a search on it found nothing.
I have seen them on jeeps but the brackets would be much different for a toyota.
I wondered what kind of bracket you could use to do it.

I found a kind of mount system on a pathfinder I think he mounted them somehow to the fenders.




Just wondered if anyone else has done this and do they have pics of the mounts they used?

I also saw a 4runner where he just drilled holes to mount his lights.

 

There is a plate that came with my snorkel system that bolts to the pillar. You could try to use that somehow. I've only seen those on heeps.

That first picture is funny, since the dood has a snorkel, and an intake on his hood! looks pretty silly to me!

 

Can't remember who it was, but i think one of the members here used CB antennae channel mounts to mount lights on, gap between hood and fender. Just drill another hole where the fender bolts are, closer to the windscreen and mount lights.

 

Ya that would probably work pretty good and less chance of leaking if you drilled into your windsehild frame.

 

Had some on a jeep once. Never used them, the light on the hood was really distracting. Same goes for light bars on the roof of the cab.

 

i bet if you positioned the lightbar just right the top of the cab would shield the hood from being lit up. If you got it back far enough.

the jeep brackets arent even connected to the fender, they are mounted to the windshield fold won bracket, they sell special brackets for it, on my explorer, i have a yj wrangler windshield and instead of buying the jeep one, just drilled a hole in a piece of flat steel and welded it onto the bracket....

I talked to a friend that works at the parts dept of Rovers North and seems to think they have some kind of windsheild bracket that may work for my truck. He said he saw some kind of windsheild light bracket they had for D90's that would probably work.

 

I was thinking about buying some light mounts for a suzuki samurai and trying those.


It looks like the bracket on a toyota truck windsheild would have to have a offset bend to it since it is not flat and it has a quite a angle to it.

 

You might want to look at the brackets they use on law enforcement vehicles. That type of light might be more versatile as it is moveable from inside the cab.

 

Hey, if you get that worked out you definatly have to post the results for everyone to see....... I'd love to have a set-up like that!

 

they make lights for toyota trucks, the ones the police use.....

this is from napa auto parts, check them out online, they are expensive though, if you do some searching you can find the same stuff cheaper www.napaonline.com oh yeah, i dont work for napa, just have one of their industrial books next to me

there are several differnt part numbers for the toyota trucks, most of them change with the generation... however... here are the part numbers for a 4runner for the special police spotlight brackets:
86-89 L: 730-1435 R: 730-1464 uses a 12" spotlight shaft length
90-95 L: 730-1439 R: 730-1099 uses a 13" spotlight shaft length
96-01 L: 730-1439 R: 730-1099 uses a 12" spotlight shaft length

trucks:
72-81 L: 730-1352 R: n/a uses a 12" spotlight shaft length
89-96 L: 730-1439 R: 730-1099 uses a 13" spotlight shaft length

i am guessing that since there is no listing for the second gen trucks, that it is the same as the first gen runner

you can get the spotlights jsut about anywhere... i prefer www.galls.com or similar

this is an expensive way to do it! but nothing beats the utility, hands down, i have 3 hellas on my bumper, but i wish i could move them and use them anywhere like a cop spotligth would... eventually i will put one on my truck.....

 

Naw those are crazy money. I just want ot make brackets to mount my hella 500's on. Thanks though for the links definately good info.

 

i made my own mounts for my jeep windshile on my explorer, a piece of 1/8" thick steel, 3" x 1" and drilled a hole, welded it to the jeep windshiled hinge, you could do that, bend it in half and weld it onto the yota.... its quite simple actually....

 

I am going to start fabrication of a bracket today.

What I would like to know is there any interest of making more of these brackets for other vehicles?
I am primarily going to make these for mainly lights that are light weight like Hella 500's and Lightforce 140, and possibly LF170 lights.
I also need to test these things out a little before I begin making them for others.

Well here's the latest I have done to my truck. It's been a while on this post but oh well I just got around to finally doing what I was going to do.
I got my digital camera working again it involved some tape engineering but it works for now.

Anyways I added 2 Hella 550's to my rollbar and welded on some light tabs to my bumper added 2 hella 500's to it.
I also made some windsheild brackets for some hella 500's which I only have one for now since the other one is broken from the last woods offroad run.
I'll be adding a second hella 500 light to the passengers side.

The bracket pretty simple 3/16" flatbar welded together drilled some holes and secured them with self tapping bolts

The usual term for one of the police-type 'spotlight on a controllable arm' units is a 'post-mount spotlight'.
