window tint

thinking about getting my front windows tinted, but i have a couple of questions. new york requires that 70% percent of light pass through the front windows. since the front windows have a small percentage of tint from the factory, which must be factored in- what is a safe bet to go with? is it even worth it? thanks

I think they tinted mine here in Wa State @ 10% front & 30% rear. It was the darkest the guy was willing to go. Looks badarse to.

I think if it's an SUV it is considered a truck so you can have the back and rear windows as dark as you want, infact you can have it painted with no light pass through. the front windows are 35%legal and windshield you can have it tinted 6inches from the top. My brother in law owns a window tint shop and that's as far as he knows in WA state. Call up your local PD and I'm sure they'll tell you or direct you to a website that has the info. I dont know about your state but it is not too strict on over here unless it's a rookie cop that's trying to meet his quota. Most people do 20% all around over here.

Becareful on how dark you go. Some states have restrictions and depends where you travel you may get pulled over for tint that is to dark. In Pennsylvania the State police have meters which check the darkness of the tint. My neighbor put on 40% and one month later had to take it off. He got pulled over three times in one month and two tickets.

Colorado can have zero additional tinting on any window even with or forward of the driver's seat. It is a secondary offense though, so you won't get pulled over for it but you can get a ticket for it if you are pulled over for something else.

70% is really light. IMO I wouldn't even bother adding any tint to the front windows because it won't make much difference unless you want your windows to be illegal. To tell you the truth, 70% is almost no tint so you may already be at the legal limit.

My windows read 1.8% all the way around. I've got a layer of limo (5%) and a layer of platinum (35%). It looks great. Legal in Texas is 20%. Only DPS has tint meters so I'm not too worried about it. I do keep my eye open for them though.

The only problem that I have is when inspection time comes around. I either need to find a new inspection guy who will pass it or I will need to figure out how to take my doors off.

My digital camera will be here on monday so maybe I can post a couple pics to let you guys take a look.

I just got mine tinted on tuesday. I got limo tint on the back and extra cab windows, and one shade lighter than limo on the front windows.

Anybody know what percentage those are?

I had mine tinted to match the factory glass. It's not very heavy but makes a huge difference in cabin temps when it's hot out compared to plain glass.

Go for it and just get it to match the factory glass. You should be fine.

One shade lighter than limo is 20%? I'm in Ca and the legal limit is 70%.

That's why i said generally. Most tints shops go...5% - 20% - 35% over here. I just now saw that CA is 70%..wow that's kinda pointless considering that you are in one of the sunniest state...farmer's tan for everyone in CA!!

pre-cut tint

Here's a link to pre-cut tint for the front two windows of a runner, minimum $21.50 with shipping.

This seems like an alright deal to me, as I tried to tint my own windows one time, and cutting it was by far the hardest part.

Any opinions? It looks like they have good feedback.
