Window stone chip !

On my way to work today a stone smacked into my front windshild. The chip is about the size of a quater... Its in the lower center of the window where the windshild wipers miss... Is there anything i can do to get rid of this? Ayone else have this happen. It loks like crap.

You can go to an auto glass place and they can fix it. I have 2 on mine, but, they are small and out of view, so I haven't fixed them.

Try calling up some places and see what they say.

on a real note tho whenever i get chips, i always fill them with a glass epoxy to try and prevent the spread of cracks to the rest of the glass...

Take it to an autoglass shop, they can inject resin to prevent it from spreading. After it's fixed, you'll never know it was there.

Don't you people have insurance? Why would you want to drive around with a mickey-moused windshield when you can get a new one covered by insurance?

I can pay a $300 deductible,or $40 to have it fixed. And if I was to choose the $300 route, they send me to a glass shop to have it glued. Once it cracks though, it can't be fixed and the insurance route becomes more affordable.

Cracks can be fixed but most glass places won't. The guy who fixes mine drills each end of the crack with a diamand tip bit (dentist tool) and then fills it with resin. Never had problems with them after they are fixed. He usually charges $40 but will charge more if there are more than one crack or the cracks are really long.

Yah, the insurance is the way to go. The last 2 times they replaced the windsheild they came to my house and were done in less than an hour (no charge). The resin injection works pretty well but the down side is if you live where there are temperature extremes (-0F to +100F) over time (3 to 5 yrs) the fix will take on an opaq discoloration.

Ouch. I've never insured any of my vehicles with anything less than full coverage, so I'm not sure what I would save if I downgraded my comprehensive. Seems to be one of those little things you wouldn't want to skimp on though. If I were to crack my windshield it would be fixed where ever my car sat (work, home, etc.) for no extra $$ and it would be done in less than 24 hours.

I actually used to have a windshield chip repair business. If places charge you for it, and you've got full-coverage insurance, go elsewhere. Most insurance companies provide this free to the customers and the glass company still gets anywhere between $20-40 per chip from the insurance company.

Definately get it filled, not the whole windshield replaced. I believe you only get 2-3 windshield replacements per a given period through your insurance company. Save that for worse situations.

For what it's worth, most of my repairs (fills) came out crystal clear, and after 3-4 years, there is no discoloration at all. Most of the repairs, you can't even tell it's there, unless you look really close.

That is the lowest deductible that ICBC (the local ins. thieves) offer.

They do sell a repair kit in the auto stores. I tried it, and it works well.

I had a chip repaired that way on my Jeep with the injected resin. Three years later the resin turned yellow!
