Window Grease?

Ok, my windows were really hard to roll up or down, and somebody said that it was probably the regulator, well i pulled the regulator out, and it seemed ok, But the window had a bunch of gunk on it, as well as a bunch of gunk in the track as well. The gunk was kinda gummy and sticky. So i cleaned it all out really well, and it seemed to be working really well after i got it all back together. This morning i tried rolling the window down again, and it was hard again. What im wondering is, is there any grease that i should put in the track? Like that white grease that you see sometimes. Lithium grease?

Ok i was in the industry of auto glass for 5 years so here it goes. Toyotas mostly older ones do often need regulaters but also I have seen the track get bent but what I think your particular problem is you need to grease up the track really well because with age the felt track liner gets gooey. You could replace it but it is a pain, if the lithium grease works I would call it good.
I would also look at the tracking to see if it is binding this is another quick and easy adjustment. Just go slow and it somtimes helps to look at the other side as reference. Oh also is it a power or manual unit?

I had the same problem with my old 86. I just hosed everything down in the door with silicone lubricant. Work well. About once a month

I have the same problem, and I just found new regulators in JC Whitney for 24.95. The dealer wants $60 something. The qusetion I have is are the regulators for an 84-88 pickup with vent the same as a 89 4Runner with a vent?

Ok, i sprayed the silicone lubricant in there, and it worked like a charm.

- Bryan, before you go buying a new regulator, take it out and run it back and forth by hand first to see how it feels. For me, people on here said the regulator was the problem, so i pulled it out on both sides, and its perfectly good. My problem was the track was gummed up with tons of crap, i dont even know what that crap was. So i had the regulator out, unbolted the track on the bottom, and took the window out of the track, then stood it up on end (all inside the door, not removing the track or window from the inside of the door) and i used "De-solv-it" (a strong citrus cleaner, works very well) to clean it spotless, then used simple green to clean up the greasiness that the de-solv-it left behind. Then i used a paintstick with a rag shirt soaked in simple green to run through the track. I just ran it through, pulled it out, then moved it to a clean section of the rag, soaked it in simple green, and ran it through until it came out clean. Then i put all back together, and sprayed simple green in the track, and ran the window up and down a bunch, repeated with process a few times. Then now i sprayed the silicone lubricant in there, and voila, my windows work perfect now. Alot better than when i bought the truck, and i had to use both hands, and muscle to get them to budge.

Thanks to all who helped me on here, the windows are nice now.

Oh, and the first gen 4runner is 85-89 i believe, and the pickup of that body style is 84-88 i believe. I know that the next gen is 89-95.5 for the pickup, and 90-95 for the 4runner.
