Craptastic idle

ok in the on going search for my crappy idle, i think it might be my distributor, it looks original and my truck has 226 k miles on it. its a 91 22re truck. I took apart my distributor and it idles alot better but when i give it gas it idles at about 650? no tach and then slowly goes to 700-780 rpm about 5 seconds later and my truck always smells rich too. I just replaced the O2 sensor.

ok i decided to check my timing chain, seems like there might be too much slack, dont now if its ever been replaced, also the cam sprocket has that dent on it, i made sure the #1 piston was TDC and the dent wasnt all the way to the top, a lil to the left, almost seemed like 1 tooth off, heres a art pic until i take a real picture. any suggestions?

The cam sproket is not a tooth off when the dot is a little to the left, thats just how they are. If youv'e got 226K on the chain I would change it whether its the problem or not. Kinda sounds like your cold start injector might not be tuning off. Hows the MPG?

um last time i check i think it was around 260 miles on about 6/8 or 7/8 of a tank cant tell really cuz my fuel gauge is off, but it always smells rich but i dont know if its the cold start injector because it warms up and then the idle does drop, if i disconnect it could that tell me if it is bad?

Well if your getting 260-300 per tank on 31's thats probably not the problem. How long since you last checked/adjusted the TPS and cleaned out the TB?
