Will a 83 tranny fit a 90?
#1
In search of the answer. My 90 tranny is out . It goes into gear and drives but make terrible noises in neutral and in every gear but 4th. Metal chunks in the oil. Anyways will these trannys swap out? Both 4x4, 4cyl, 5-speed. Thanks for any help!

If I remember right the 22R block height changed by a few cm. in late 84 early 85?. But if you can find a bell housing that bolts up to the '90 motor and the '83 trannny you should be in luck. I'm sure if you call Tim @ DOAracing, he will give you all the specifics.
Good luck

Even if you could get them to mate up, you don't want to do it. The bearing around the input shaft on the '83's were weak and when they go out they go out bigtime and wash throughout the transmission saying goodbye to all the other parts as they pass by.
Go here http://www.marlincrawler.com/trans.html and check out what they have to offer. From the chart, it appears that the '83 might not fit anyway.
I wish they had an adapter to make the r150f fit the old 22re. I think you have to change the input shaft and flywheel though. If you could, you get get a lower get set for the tranny. All it takes is $, and $ and $ and $....
