Wierd noise...HELP!!!! *UPDATE*

OK, a little while after installing my lift kit I started hearing a slight noise anytime I hit a bump at speed. Sounds a lot like change in your ash tray, except its coming from my left front wheel area. I did both sides identical, but only the driver side does it. I have checked and rechecked all the bolts that hold the strut assembly in place...PLEASE someone help..I'm sure someone else has heard the same noise....!!!

I thought I could live with it at first, but now I think I'm going to pull my hair out if I hear it again!!!

Any help mucho appreciated!!!

Have you called Revtek? Maybe they will have a good answer or t-shooting steps you can follow.

I'm drawing a blank at this point.

Well, I just might try that next week because I just came in from tearing it all down again, and I still don't see anything that could possibly make any noise. I did try rotating the upper spacer a little so that the studs lined up perfectly with the indentations (sp?) in the spacer. Hopefully that was it, but I'm doubting it.

Still..anybody pleeze!!!!

Hmm I also did the Revtek 3" a few weeks back but I don't have any noises comming from the front, My studs are a little off center also so don't think thats going to fix it. What about checking the Brake pads be sure there not to loose... Grasping at straws here.
New Wheels ?? check to be sure center caps not moving around or loose ?. What about the Gravel guard is that tight ? Diff drop bolts you double check them ? it maybe a rock or bolt laying in the gravel guard ??
Good luck on your search. You know the noise may have nothing to do with the lift and something else came loose at the same time
:pat: sorry all the guess I have...

Hey thanks man, I have actually already pulled the wheels off, removed the centercaps and put tape around them to make sure they are solid. Next, I checked every bolt in the wheel area, including all skid bolts, A arm bolts, and brake lines. I also check the brake assembly, which is very solid. Right now, all I have left is to grasp at straws unfortunately.

Thanks man!!

Have you pulled the skid plate off, and/or checked all around in the engine compartment for a tool or piece of hardware that got left behind from when you were wrenching on your Runner? Seems like you have eliminated anything associated with the lift itself.

Well, here is a straw to pull: Make sure you did not leave any tools laying in the hood-engine trough. I got a new wrench after taking my car to the shop one day. Hey, after what they charged me, I deserved a rebate! It too made a noise that drove me nuts. I pulled up the hood, and there is was.

One other thought If you feel you have checked everything and its still something to do with the lift. this would be a extreme but pull the coil packs and switch them from right to left and see if its follows. Like I said this would be like my last choice ...
May want to just leave the center caps off and make a test run be sure to take all of them off so you can completely rule them out.
Good Luck on your search

I wish I could say I did leave a tool behind, but I just did my oil change last weekend..and I have the noise both before and after. I always remove all the skids when I do my oil so I don't get any residue dripping after the fact. When I had it apart today, I also bounced the tire up and down in the garage trying to make it make some noise, nothing there. I also raised that corner suspension with my jack and released it as quickly as possible trying to simulate the road, nothing there either. So I dunno...the only thing I can think to troubleshoot it is to swap a strut assembly from another lifted runner and see if that cures it. If so, then I know the sound is originating from that and not anything else.

Do you think they can be swapped? Or would I have to pull the assembly apart again??

Would think you could just swap them since the springs are rated the same to the best of my knowledge... Someone chime in if I'm wrong. the back are not the same just for a FYI

You should be able to swap the fronts from side to side.

i had a similar noise that turned out to be the spare underneath not being seated properly. I didn't take it down it just shifted a bit. It's worth a look anyway.

*UPDATE*

Ok guys great news!! I did what was suggested and swapped the right to left and left to right side strut assemblies and good news, noise is GONE

While taking it apart the only thing I found that could possibly have made the noise was some rocks on the top of the suspect side assembly in between the strut cap and the hat it bolts too. All together now and I can't hear ANY noise from either side. Who knows exactly what was making it, but thanks to some helpfull advice from the board it does not do it anymore!!!
