Wierd Healight Problem

Hey all,

I just put in some of those oh so cool "JDM" black headlights. They look super awesome-sauce, but I have a problem. They look like this:

Second one is with Flash on.

I tried adjusting them, but it didn't change anything. The bulbs aren't in wrong either. Whats going on!? Its making it difficult to drive at night, only for the reason that they make me angry...

Anyone have a solution?!

looks like maybe you didn't get them mounted right in place or there is something that is pushing them out of place.

I had a similar problem with an aftermarket set I put in a friends truck. Since the light is aftermarket the reflector in the housing isn't to OEM spec so you get the streaks in the beam. I installed OEM used lights and the beam is perfect. All the adjustment in the world won't fix the problem.

The only thing I can think of is to play with the headlight adjusters. Oh and...

so i'm guessing this is what people were talking about when they said the "JDM" lights have bad beam patterns...

brian has a set, maybe he can chime in on some answers?

There looks like two different problems. Horizontal alignment and beam pattern. I was able to get the horizontal alignment correct on the aftermarket light but the beam patter isn't "fixable".

LOL whoa, man I've got the same headlights and don't have that problem. Try adjusting the center piece in the headlight, it moves quite easily. That should fix the problem.

That looks a heck of a lot like the beam pattern I was getting on my aftermarket 99+ lights. Like Fo Sheezy said, the only way to try and fix it is to mess around with the shield that covers the end of the bulb. Huge PITA. I never got mine adjusted perfectly. So I ended up cutting them up and putting projectors in

Good luck though, I hope you have better luck than I did...

i know mine is a 2nd gen with sealed beam, but when i bought clear headlights that i can change the bulb, the light was all wrong, low beam was pointing up and high beam pointing down, and i installed the lights just like the paper and housing said too. in the end i simply turned the housing upside down and now they work perfectly producing as much light as the 08 Hilux SRV

So I'm SOL?

I'll try putting my old bulbs in, I used the pair that came with the lights.

Maybe I can get the guy to send me another pair, maybe I got a bad batch...
