why std cabs taller than xtracabs?

why std cabs taller than xtracabs?
why did toyota design the 89~95std cab 4x's to be taller than the xtracab 4x's? it seems that the 4runners were taller- the same height as stdcabs.

what was toyota thinking?

maybe it is because they used the same springs, but the standard cab is lighter..
