Even with all these forced induction 4Runners I still rarely see real strip numbers and reliability seems to be an issue but I'm pretty sure somebody pushed the SC into the high 13s at least.

I'd be willing to bet that there are many more S/C'd 3.4's on customtacos.com.
I honestly think that the s/c is a bad way to increase a 3rd gens power. The reason I enjoy my truck is its reliability.

Are there documented cases of S/Cs blowing up perfectly good motors? How many of those were due to a poor tune or lack of fuel mods?
I am seriously (in the future) considering S/Cing the Runner.

Not to sound smart, but how do you increase a 3rd Gen's power in a good way?

To answer your first question, if I was to commit to a hp increase with a s/c type of budget, than I'd lean towards this route:

My runner has over 142K miles on it, been supercharged since day one. Never had anything other than the usual scheduled maintenance. I've seen some 4runner dies before this without the S/C

I just feel that you end up spending a ton of money if you want to do the s/c properly with all the appropriate mods. I know my truck is heavy, slow and horrible on gas. I Wouldn't personally spend the thousands necessary to have a heavy, less slow truck that gets V8 gas mileage.

However, I have also been told that the fuel mileage with the S/C is either the same or under some conditions, mildly better. So I am not concerned with that so much at all. Besides, if I am to get poor mileage, I might as well go faster doing it.
And to the OP, the only way to REALLY get the 4Runner/Taco in the 13s is gearing. That is the trick for most race cars. Power yes, but gears are cheaper.

Fair enough. I believe that other than dropping a 5.0 in the 4Runner, a TRD S/C is the only other viable option. I have seen the uz motor swap and while it is cool, its more expensive than a 5.0 EFI swap. That being said, you will DEFINATELY get V8 mileage out of the 5.0 or 4.0 Toy V8.

It's gonna be tough to get an SUV into the 13's without some serious power. I'd say that 14's are more realistic with a BUILT motor. Low 15's for the S/C that you can just bolt on, I would guess.

Buy a 2wd Taco and supercharge it if you want to play on the drag strip. The dead weight of a 4wd is counter intuitive for racing. With a rear wheel drive truck you can economically regear and spool it and go racing and the exhaust mods will be less of a headache. Race it long enough and hard enough and you will find the weak links. By the way, its only a 3.4L so don't expect to set the asphalt on fire.

yeah. i would do that if i had a n/a motor. already got the charger. now i just want to see what kind of power i can get out of it with stock charger pulley. i am also preping the system to run e-85 mix.... im running 3 gallons per tank right now. to stop any pinging there might be. want to run half and half.
