I broke a 17 mm Craftsman wrench just like that, but only the closed end. I was removing a front CV shaft with a Karate Kid type kick. Free replacement rules.

Everything gets Anti-sieze or a small bit of thread locker depending on how soon I expect to have to remove it.

Crapsman? Its all about Mac tools!!

I usually don't use antiseize. I just drench the bolt with KB Blaster an hour before I start working on it.

You'll learn when the threads from your head come out with the spark plug.

I hadn't even heard of Mac tools until Monster Garage. I've also never broken a tool other than some crappy Stanley screwdrivers. I guess I've got the right level of finesse (ya bunch of gorillas!!)

Same here. I twisted the tip off some cheap screwdrivers and I had the ratchet mech go out in a craftsman ratchet wrench once, but other than that, I don't break tools.

I've priced Snap-On and Mac. They're way too expensive for anyone but a professional or tool fetishist. A 22 piece socket set costs $420 according to their websites. Craftsman charges about $40 if it isn't on sale. Hard to justify that difference when you're a weekend warrior.

Tell me why this set is worth at least 10 times what Craftsman charges.

I noticed that these Craftsman "professional" series ratchets have a nicer grip and ratcheting mechanism than Snap-On. When I reach into my toolbox, I always grab the Craftsman ratchet over the Snap-on.
between my dad and me, we have been through three of those craftsman's. try putting a pipe on the end, it will break real fast. now that SK, i hit the pipe with a ball peen hammer, still havent broke that.

That's impressive but you shouldn't use a cheater bar with a ratchet anyways. That's why they make breaker bars. That way you don't break stuff.

ive got a breaker bar too, but sometimes it just doesnt fit. and with the swively head, it is hard to hold it in place and beat on it, when you are lying on your back. some times i just have to sacrafice another ratchet. at least i still get a new one.

sometimes with the way the socket has to line up...the handle of a breaker bar will be in a position where you cant turn it...ya know what i mean... in this case i always tend to revert back to the proven method...a pipe on the handle of the ratchet...and never really had a problem with breaking ratchets either its all about leverage

At my sears they have a rotating policy. They send the broken ones out for repair and those are the ones they hand out when you bring in yours. I got lucky as they were all out last time and got a new one which probably means its 1% better than the rebuilt ones. I feel sorry for whoever gets my old ratchet.

That set of tools costs more than my whole truck. Forget it.

This is way more in line with my trail of thought. I'm on my 3rd Crapsman ratchet because I use a 4 foot 2 inch round 10 gauge pipe on really sticky bolts.

I use tons of Pro-Long SPL penetrating oil. PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench do well to but some bolts on my junk are so rusted that tools just break some times. That's why I buy Craftsman, Free replacement.

MAC and some other brands offer free replacement but you have to find a dealer or send the broken one in and wait for them to send a replacement. Its never hard to find a Sears store to get Craftsman.
