- Toyota 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra How to Install Program HomeLink<br>Step by step instrucstions for do-it-yourself repairs.
when did 3rd gen homelink start?
#21
Programming the homelink is easy. Just get your garage door opener and hold it close to visor. Hold down the button on your garage door opener and the button you want to use on the visor at the same time. The homelink system will remember the signal. Should be the same for mirror homelink systems.
Kind of like programming your favorite stations on your radio.

I looked at DC’s pictures. Patrick, remind me not to play Where’s Waldo against you for money!
I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread too. I haven’t looked, but I wonder if the electrical harness for the Home Link and illuminated visor mirror is already in place on the 01-02 even if this option wasn’t installed. Has anyone without this option seen the wires for it when their headliner was off?

Deathcougar, definitely a GRRRRREAT price. and a great person to deal with once again.
element, yes i have a keen eye for the things that i need, and parts are just a fun thing to hunt for, in the yard or online
don't know about the wire harness. i doubt my '98 has anything up there so i'll just route the wires myself. i think it's probably just a +/- wire system for the mirror and the homelink like all the others. i can do that no problem.
i'll update as i make progress.

got the visors from Deathcougar today! i've already started tearing into them a little. man, they are soo close to being just cleaned up and put in, but alas they are ripped in a couple little spots and i am going to have them recovered.
gonna call around tomorrow and see about pricing, if it's insane i'll probably just do it myself if possible. i'm going to wait before tearing the covers off of them until i show them to the upholsterer in case they need to see them before working on them. if it costs too much, i'll take them apart and see if i can do some of my own recovering work.
looks like each visor has just two wires coming out of them +/- for the home link on driver's side and the lighted mirror on the passenger side, should be pretty simple to do the wiring then.
again, thanks to deathcougar for selling me the visors and getting this mod ball rolling again

i'll try that when i get a new set. just today my sunglasses that i bought 2 1/2 years ago finally split, cheapo plastic ones but the best sunglasses i ever had! i've got some expensive Von Zipper glasses that look really nice but don't fit my face and ears so they won't be used either. guess i'll have to fly out to san diego and find that little outside kiosk and buy another pair, best $15 i ever spent. thanks in advance for changing my life

My 2002 SR5 doesn't have the Homelink (unless it's hidden in the visor somehow), but I do have the illuminated vanity mirror for the passenger side. Anyone got a pic of the Homelink visor? I'd like to do this as well.
I've been considering a new rear view mirror with temp, compass, and Homelink but they're $300 !!

here is the picture of the driver's side visor with the Home Link in the lower right section. the other side has a lighted mirror too. the passenger side has the lighted mirror only. both have plastic extending pieces that pull out to shield you from the sun. i have started to disassemble the visors in preparation for recovering, so that gap on the left side is where the plastic extending piece was.

i posted this in the general section but i thought i'd add it here too.
is anyone familiar with some one that does automotive upholstery of good quality and decently priced? i'm having trouble finding anyone local that is willing to do this for me. they either don't do automotive or won't take on this job because of the electronics. i've even got the electronics removed enough that it won't cause problems for them and they still refuse.
i wouldn't mind doing it myself, but i'm unsure of how to get all 4 sides without seams. i know i can sew the seams from the inside to hide the seams, but how do you get the visor in and sew up the 4th side and hide the seam? anyone have any tips on this? looks like from the factory these were not sewn, just cut out with some heat to seal it up on all sides. not afraid to do some sewing, i just can't figure out that last side. anyone?

Can't you clean them? I removed oily mechanic fingerprints from mine by spraying with a good quality upholstery cleaner, wetting a hankerchief and then applying a hot iron(on steam setting) for about 25 secs. It took a few attempts but it totally removed stains. This method is also used for removing the airbag stickers.

they are actually ripped, not just dirty. i think deathcougar said the vehicle was in a roll over so they got a bit mangled up. the seams came apart in spots and there is a rip on the passenger side visor, the side that i believe took the brunt of the roll. too bad, they were almost good enough to just clean up but with the rips they will need to be recovered.
