Whats it worth?

I am looking at buying a toyota. It is an 85, sr5, efi, linex bedliner in the bed and on the bottom half of truck, smitty built front and rear and smittybuilt roll bar (how much can I sell these for?), nice crome wheels, 31's (decent tread), interior is beat. The major problem is he says it needs a new engine. He said it started "Knocking" (whatever that means), and thinks it might be a bad crank shaft bearing. He drove it home, and then it has sat for about a year. Whats it worth? He is asking $1,000 and I offered him $300 (he did not accept). Thanks for your help. David.

Where is this rig from? sounds familiar. the general rule is any rig that runs is worth ball part $800. Being he admitted it will need an engine drops him to a max of $800 IMO. Why did you only offer $300?

body is in good shape, no dents, has typical toyota rust on the bed (on the middle section of the bed quarter panel), frame has very little rust (none by the gas tank), rust spot on the hood, but other than that, the paint is in good shape. Thanks for helping me clarify...

what it comes down to is do you really want a 4x4 and do you have the time and money to put in a new engine if so take $600 with you but just wave $500 in his face....cold hard cash usually makes people crack....when i bought mine the guy wanted 1500 and i went to his house with $800 and waved it in his face and he bit like a starvin large mouth bass........................

The rig is a nevada rig, I only offered him $300 because I am cheap and he looked like he was pretty desperate to get rid of it, but I was wrong.

it does run as is right? drives? all parts there? extras are surely a plus! I say use DW's 500/600 tactic and hit him up but make him think you are looking at another rig for $500 and then tell him if you were to buy the rig from him you can go over that. I think he would crack. $300 is a disgrace IMO. You have to try but if you did it to me I would not be happy. Good luck buddy.

runs, has a bad knock, haven't driven it yet (don't want to throw a rod and destroy the block), no other extras. The guy is mechanically clueless. He doesn't know what a great treasure he has (an 85 efi sr5 solid axle). I apologized for lowballing him, he wasn't upset at all. It was his step daughters truck, so he inherited it from her. Thanks for the help
