Whats top speed have you hit?

Hi Guys. Just thought I'd see what's the top speed you guys have done in your 3rd gen runners? Also list mods that might have influenced that speed.

Ive done 85. But then I live in Hawaii and we have short crowded freeways.

In my truck? 108mph which is where it bounces off of the rev limiter and shuts things down.

btw, here's a similar thread:

stock, I've reached 95-100 on a closed track, by far not a speed demon

On the way to Utah after passing some folks (prior to my SC'r and headers)...

I may have broken that a couple times after my mods. Again, passing people. Going over 90 MPH or so in these things is just stupid if you are doing it for fun, at least in mine it is.

106. And it was not a problem of reaching or maintaining that speed.
I have stock 4Runner 3.4L 4x4, auto.
It also felt very stable which a great is for any SUV at that speed.
BTW I was racing Ford F250 diesel. His limiter cut him off around 100 :-))).

Actually...

After I put on the ATS A-Arms, my camber went to all heck. I never got it aligned (well, I tried, but they wouldn't touch it 'cause the front end's a bit whacked anyway) so in addition to being a good 5* off in camber, the outside 2" of the tires are close to bald.

This translates to a LOT of fun trying to make a lane change across a crowned road at highway speeds. It's amazing at how "interesting" the truck drives right now.

Now, I bring this up along side of your speed comment 'cause I've found that the "sailing" feeling actually flattens out around 80, and I'm somewhat stable at 90.

??? I see I'm getting two finger wags, but are they for the speed or for bouncing off the limiter or tying into the other thread?

I went 100+ to test when I firt got it. I felt like I was going to topple if I hit a small rock (this was in a windy part of the mojave desert). Stayed slower since, have no need to go that fast in the 4runner.

ahh... then subtract one no-no, I didn't get a ticket. (yes, I understand you're issuing one!)

The guy I was "driving along side of" (i.e., not "racing") did get one though, AND he got tossed in jail 'cause he was quite stoned and the cop found weed in the truck. (happened to be another 4Runner btw)

I didn't know him... it started on an open stretch of road, I was going fast, he went a bit faster, I went a bit faster, he went a bit faster.... Pretty soon I was bouncing off the limiter and slowed down. He kept going for a bit, then started slowing down and... smokey .

He was clocked at 96, I was at 93. The speed limit was 70 and we both got pulled over. The cop talked to me first, took my license and reg then walked up to him. He was up there for a LONG time - he had the driver out of the truck and doing a field test. Then the passenger.

He walked back to me, handed me my license & reg and said "you really have to slow down... you never know who you're driving next too. Those kids are so stoned that they're not sure where they are. There's open dope on the front seat, and I'm gonna be filling out paperwork for the next hour. Go ahead and get out of here, but please be careful.".

The planets were well aligned for me that day.

Not making light of it, just filling in the story.

I saw that too! Well done Christian! (though he said he just passed someone, so I'm sure it was actually set to 55. )

Once in awhile i'll take it up to 90-91mph...anything more seems not "good" even though it's capable.
My new BEL RX-65 Pro has already saved my ass twice while driving from CA to CO.

I drive 90 Regularly, I have no problems driving fast... except that one time going out to palm springs, those 5.0's come up to you from out of no where $350 ticket. I just keep it under 95 for now on. The stock springs for me IMO are so soft for the high speed I don't trust the truck any faster than that.. The boat feeling is right...

The speedo only goes to 85, but the needle does go farther...
Not sure of the top speed with the big tires, but it does depend on the slope of the road and the direction of the wind with ye olde 22R.

Throttle cuts off at 106. Took a little work to get it up to this speed with that 4 banger, but that truck sure feels solid at that speed.
