as most of you know i bought some chrome wheels and tires for them. I am going to be keeping the factory wheels and tires for the winter? Whats the best way to store them? off the ground? standing up? maybe not full pressure? should i give the wheels a good polish and the tires a cleaning and coating in zain tire gloss?? i dont know any recommendatiosn would be good.

Here's what I do: Clean and wax the wheels, no tire dressing (on OEM tires like Dunlops it voids the warranty), inflated to max pressure (to allow for leakage and minimize distortion), individually wrapped in plastic bags, stacked horizontally on a pallet no more than two high, away from heat sources like a furnace, shielded from direct sunlight. This comes from my local race tire supplier, American's Tire Company. I've stored OEM wheels and tires for almost a year. Upon reinstall, the OEM's feel smooth, balanced, and show no signs of dry rot or ugly brownish residue from tire dressings.

you have to be freaking kidding me. how the hell does that void warranty, and how the hell would they even know if you put it on.

Will this also work for my 32's on 15x10's?I'm in the process of getting a new Tacoma and for what they are giving me for a trade in value I will be keeping my tire/rim combo to put on the new one. I will keep them in my storage room (a/c'ed)until I can get the lift I will need to fit the 32's.Maybe a year.

 

Chris, it's right there in the Tire Care and Maintenance Brochure included with new vehicles equipped with Dunlops:

-Do not apply sidewall dressings/cleaners.

And in the What Is Warrantied section:

-Ozone cracking or weather checking for tires treated with dressings or incompatible cleaning agents...will not be covered.

When I called Dunlop, they said it's due to some dressings containing petroleum or other products that will break down rubber. Actually, the brochure has a whole bunch of other ways to void the tire warranty. They really cover their bases for almost anything.

92, sounds like it should work. My tire guys biggest warning was to store them horizontally. Of course they store theirs vertically, but are constantly moving inventory so no tire is there long.
