What's the best way to clean the engine compartment?
I saw a post on this the other day... but am having trouble finding it. I remember the name of the bottle was something like CB-2 or something.... they said it was available at target. I went to target and pep boys but neither had such cleaner.
Does anybody remember the name of this stuff?
Any suggestions on other ways to clean the engine?

I've seen CD-2 and CR-2 mentioned. Search through the Maintenance threads for clean engine and you'll find a host of topics to that effect.
Here's a couple:
here is one
and here's another:
another
and there are many more...

SIMPLE GREEN .....
Spray it on and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes. There is no need to heat up the engine first. Do not use a high pressure hose and watch out for electrical connectors. Then use compressed air to dry the engine compartment. If your engine bay is really nasty, you may have to use two applications. You can also use a cheap painting brush with simple Green to loosen up the stubborn crud.
Note:This might be a good time to use Dielectric grease (lightly) on all electrical harness connectors, including the spark plug boot connectors. Use electronics sponge Q-Tips to apply the grease.
Then for shows use Meguire's #40 Rubber and Vinyle Protector to give everything a shine that is not as staticy as using Armoral. IMO, Armoral is crap. You can also go over the engine bay with a water wash after you spray it with #40 so that there isn't too much residue ... then blow dry.
I clean the engine bays on my vehicles all the time with Simple Green and have never had a problem. IMHO, it's the BEST ... and it is cheap.

CD2 does more than just clean your engine it makes it purty and shiny like you armour all'ed the whole dang thing!!!! It comes in two cans one is a degreaser the other is the armour all like stuff. I only use the 2nd Can since my engine is oil and grease free. I take about an hour at first of elbow grease then spray that stuff on and it makes the engine bay shine!!!! Caution:! Don't spray this stuff directly on your belts or alternator.. (common sense) also less known I killed a relay with it and I heard someone had cruise control probs after spraying directly on the box.. Don't get me wrong this stuff rocks just be careful where you put the heavy doses!! Really does wonders for the fan shroud and hoses! Good luck!

Well, where I live I end up washing my engine at least once a month and I can't be bothered with anything more than a spray, rinse, and dry ... no perm or color thank you very much.
The Simple Green is so easy to use and I have never damaged any components while using it. The only negative thing I have found is that it tends to leave black painted fender wells looking a bit dull; however, the rubber parts look new as does bright metal, etc. I don't have the patience to do a lot of primping if you know what I mean ... I just want it clean.
Also, when you can get it for about $7.00 a gallon and it is biodegradable, you don't mind splashing it around. I'm sure the CD-2 is very good too ... I suppose it just depends on how fancy you want to get.
