What year is this truck?

I am going to take a look at this truck tomorrow, and the guy has it listed as a 1984. The year doesn't seem quite right. Any input? Also, anything huge that I should be asking about when I go?

specs:
1984 Toyota Pickup
4 cyl., 5 spd., tilt, ORIGINAL factory removeable sunroof, bucket seats, cap, bed liner, rust coated regularly. One owner for 21 years, runs and drives like NEW! Truck is in mint + cond. with very few flaws. Sold cert. to best offer. 182,000 km.

if the owner has actually had it since new he might have kept some pretty good maintenance records, i would ask to see those. also, ask if the head, clutch and timing chain (surely!) have ever been replaced. someone around here may be able to tell for sure but i don't see why that truck couldn't be a 1984 model. i've never heard of a factory sunroof either but i guess it's possible? looks like a nice truck to me!

Check for RUST! That model was real bad about rusting out along the horizontal seams on both sides. Even down here in the SW they have rust in these areas.

Yep - at various times Toyota has offered an OEM pop-out sunroof as an option. However, I can't confirm or deny 1984 was one of those times...

i agree, is it a 4x2? toyta didnt use that style bed on the second gen 84-88 pickups on the 4x4... they did use them on the 4x2 though.... and there are other little slight differences on the bed that i know about that makes it seem not right... in 84 the bed had hooks under the bedrail and did not have a tailgate handle in the center of the gate, itn 84 it had clips on the side of the gate.... the design was similar to the 83 ande earlier beds that was used on both 4x2 and 4x4, however those are differnt from the second gen truck in shape also.....

I had a 87 4x4 that was a longbed, is that what everyone is talking about not being original bed? I would run a carfax if I could , do they go back that far?

carfax is a joke... and the part everyone is talking about is that in 84, the 4x4s did not have that style of bed... no 4x4 had that style of bed since 83... by the hooks on the external bedrails, that would indicate it is an 84 bed and not an 85 bed as the 85s didnt have the hooks, however it is from a 4x2, as no 4x4 had externall bedrails after the 83 model year... and even the 83 and prior model year external bedrail beds, were differnt from the external bedrailed beds from 84+

car fax is a joke for a number of reasons..... there info sucks and their is no way to prove its validity.... if you hold on a second i will post pictures of my old explorer.... carfax had no report of any of this, nor the 5 or so other accidnets i was involved where i rearended someone else or was rearended.....

i gonna have to back up jimbo on this one. my lady was shopping for an M3 a few years ago and this shady Russian guy who wouldn't let us see the car in the daylight (always came up with some silly excuse), I should have known something from the beginning. anyways, we are avid BMW owners and this would have been our third so we had our personal mechanic check the beast out after we test drove it (felt pretty solid) but the car had been in a severe accident (it had rear-ended something) the frame was fine but they used American replacement parts and when he ran codes, etc. the car registered the outside temp. at -46. Apparently BMW's track ambient heat and the ECU changes whatever it changes (i like cars but am still learning how to work on them). long story short, carfax gave the car a clean bill of health.

thats good to know about carfax, luckily i have gotten good used cars so far. And I plan on holding onto to mine for awhile, especially since the $3000 or so I've done in mods until now.

yes the 84 came with a pop out sun roof but make sure to ask if it leaks or not because mine does and i dont think it would be to easy to find a replacement one and then someone to install it for u. mine wouldnt be bad even with the little bit of leaking it does but i live in washington state so it just rains all the time....

Yes, the factory sunroof was available in 84. That looks like an early 84 4x4 to me, a lot of the early beds had those hooks on em. Has the wider fenders and the rock guard, the correct front valance for an 84 or 85, but the bed makes it an early 84. Looks like 85 SR5 wheels though.

Slammd - if yours is a factory sunroof it (theoretically) can't leak - any water that could get past the sunroof outer seal would catch in the pan and go down the drains, and then there is the secondary seal. Check to see if your drains are clogged.

definitely any '84 -- you can see the front leaf spring hangers in the pic.

could've been from canada, they got those beds up until '89 or so if i'm not mistaken.
