what is wrong with your truck?
#22
I'm checking the nothing box. The 7 yr old yota is fine
I could always use some more mods
but that's not something that is "wrong"
Emu's for the rear are on their way as we speak or should I say type..or maybe it is read

what's wrong?!?!
the fact that it's too low to the ground in stock form!!!
the fact that nobody has any parts for lifting yet!!!
other than that, it's a fun 4runner to drive
had a change to take it out and test it out in stock form... not bad.... gotta say i was pretty impressed..

I tried and tried to get it all written down in here, but everytime I clicked on [check message length] it came back as being too much to put in one post
Suffice it to say, I'm currently not really happy with my tired Runner, but that could just the recency of a valve job and head gasket and what appears to be the necessity of a new rear main seal
However, after using a highly specialized version of a mechanics stethoscope (a long cardboard tube I found in the trash), I think I have finally found the cause of the greatest irritation currently, a leak at the air injection block plate at the headers that makes it sound like I'm driving a really pissed off Robin or some sort of warbler.
Maybe I should answer this one in a few weeks...

problems with 4runner
the fact that its torn down to bare frame. theres really nothing wrong with it. I just hate driving that vw rabbit back and forth to work. I got the frame in the garage, cab is on the side of the house, interior is in the attic, doors and other body parts are scattered all over the back yard . but its not a problem ,i'll have it all back together by the end of march. I hope

Body problems:
Rust over wheel wells and the wife just backed into a light post in the Wal-Mart parking lot this week pushing the rear bumper in and putting a dent in the tailgate. Something else for me to do in my spare time!

I vote motor. The constant knocking/chattering of the valves are driving me nuts (see post Help engine knocking/chatter). Not to mention that it doesn't have all the get up and go that I like, but then again it is a 4 banger.

Well, here's the stuff that's wrong with my '90 Runner. I have 163,000 miles on it.
1) I voted motor because of my irritating spark knock (pinging). I can't seem to figure it out. Probably a different category, but my AC doesn't work either. Oh, I also have a leaking radiator. Know where it is leaking from, I just have to pull the radiator out to get it fixed. (some stupid law--the leak is right on top by the cap)
2) I also checked drive train because my tranny slip every now and then for the past year. Only does it after driving for a while or doing lots of errands (sp?). It will start in 2nd gear a few times, and pop in and out of torque lock out (or whatever that is called) after driving on the highway for over 2 hours--only lasts about 2-3 min at a time though.
3) Lastly, I checked the aesthetics one. I've got a nasty scratch (down to the sheet metal) on my door, a bunch of small dents on the hood (possible hail damage?), a sagging dented rear bumper, dented valance, small dent on each of rear panels. Interior is mostly torn headrests (underside), missing rear headrests, and a bit of carpet eaten off the rear wheel well from a battery that leaked. It also just need some really good stain remover.
Everything I mentioned was from the previous owner. I guess that's why I got it cheap. Now to start my mild restoration ($$).
At least I don't have a sagging rear, and my Runner looks good when it wet or in the dark.
Other than that, it runs great. Looking forward to when I find another job and can afford to fix it up more. Hopefully I will own it for another 4 years. (or unless I find a really good deal on a 2nd or, preferably, a 3rd gen)
Anyhow, sorry for such a long post.
Have fun all.

I agree there should be a "nothing" category, as it is a toyota. Although my tail gate has some rust blisters around the top under the weather strip:mad: but that is a cheap fix. I am the 2nd owner of this runner and her repair bill file is very thin so i am very confident in this 4x4

Mostly minor items but several of them:
1. inner cv boots are a bit cracked and need to be replaced in the spring - hope they last that long
2. rear sags but I have not changed to aftermarket springs so it is sort of normal
3. some scratches on the front left fender - there when I got it
4. some door dings on the driver's door - there when I got it
5. driver's seat is wearing out on the side bolster where you slide over it to get in - need to get it fixed before it is totally buggered
6. a couple of minor dents in the back bumper - there when I got it - want an aftermarket bumper but too poor for now
7. shiny chromy plastic part on the top of the grill is cracked so the chromy film is bubbled a bit - there when I got it
8. the lights on the heater controls are out - used to work - need to change the bulbs - will wait til summer
9. one of the back up lamps is out - need to change the bulb - waiting for warmer weather
10. need to change the wiper blade on the rear window wiper - waiting for warmer weather again
11. back window is scratched from opening it when it is dirty - can't be helped
12. ripped back left mudflap off - metal inside is rusted - need to repair or replace but they are expensive
13. aluminum wheels are a bit corroded - salt in the winter
14. wonder if the bearings - bushings in the front end are going as I sometimes hear some noise - haven't looked at it but have read that the replacements are roller bearings to solve the problem
15. carpets are dirty - light blue and hard to keep clean
16. dash pad is cracking a bit along the seam between the metal and the plastic in front of the instrument pod
17. missing a couple of the rubber strips that separate the body from the end caps on the running boards
18. stone chip in the front windshield which is also showing it's age with sand etching if you know what I mean
19. synchros in tranny may be starting to wear a bit
probably a few other things too but altogether not bad for a truck that is 8 years old and has 80K plus miles on it - I am not the original owner - only had it for 2 years so who knows what the care was like before me
did not buy it as a show vehicle obviosly - I am fine with its little quirks and would rather make it tougher instead of prettier
long post - better quit before I bore people to tears
