What.s your RPM ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Hey Guys________I have a 84 Toyota with 5sp, 22r, 529s, and 35s, and I am interested in what you guys are turning (rpm,s in 4th and 5th) with similar tires and gears. Also how close to stock(rpm and mph wise) is this setup? _____ THANKS BAYRUNNER

4.88
I posted this info awhile back.....here it is again
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WooHoo!
I just had new 4.88 Yukons installed in my '84 truck...sweet! With the 33" tires, the gearing is just about perfect. I can use 5th on the freeway now!
Some notes to share:
On the freeway, speedo seems to under-read speed by about 5 MPH. When speedo says I'm doing 65, I'm doing closer to 70 (assuming my wife's Honda speedo is accurate).
In 5th gear:
Tach says 2600...speedo says 60
Tach says 2900...speedo says 65
Tach says 3300...speedo says 75
In 4th gear:
Tach says 2500...speedo says 48

I was thinking about writing a small webpage where you can select model year, transmission type, tire diameter, gears, and MPH... then it would spit out the RPMs in each gear.
The math behind it is incredibly simple.

I was just looking at my rpm's on the interstate the other day, at about 74 I was right at 3000rpm's.
anyone else have a 5spd 3.0 with 4.10's and 31's? I'm curious if my tach is correct,.

Pretty hard for the tach to be wrong. Did you mean speedo? <grin>
Very easy way to check your speedos. Drive the freeway at a steady speed. Pick one, 55, 60 65, etc. Set your stopwatch (or have someone watch the second hand if you're digitally challenged) at a mile post. Time at least 3 mileposts to get a better sampling. (they are NOT very perfectly placed...) Time at 60 mph will be 60 seconds per mile. 55 mph is 65 seconds, 65 mph is 55 seconds... get it? Seeemple.

Changing your tire size and differential ratio won't affect the relationship between your tacho and speedo, because the speedo is driven off the transmission, so unless you change the transmission ratios, that relationship is constant. Changing tires and differential gears will change your ACTUAL speed at a given RPM.

if those things the cops set up to tell you how fast you're going are correct, then my speedo should be right on.
man I'm itching to get bigger tires and a lift too, but my wallet says that won't happen anytime soon =p
