What is real? (re: fuel capacity)

Hello all, when browsing through the book for my 2000 4runner, I see two numbers for the capacity of the fuel tank. One is around 18 gallons capacity, the other says 15 and change.

What is real???

Thanks, Rob

But, if you are like most of us, the gas guage will screw the actual amount up. My gas light will come on, and I will still have another 3 or more gallons left. Guess its part of that TSB on the fuel relay problem. Heck if I am going to pay $100 to have that fixed.

The most I've ever put in mine is 20.2. I'm not sure how much the filler hose holds, but I can't imagine it is 1.5-2 gallons.

I consider it a safety device! I LOVE having 3-4 gals left when the guage says "E". It'd really bite to be day-dreaming and have the old engine cough & die!

Rob,

As the guru of TSB EL010, I will direct you to Mr. Phong's website where he posted this TSB on his website:

http://www.phorunner.com

Go to his Recall/TSB page. Print it all out, compare your VIN to the 1st page and see what parts you need to get the fuel needle fixed.

Email me if you have questions, esp how to handle the dealer.

Bob

yeah i like having those extra 2 gallons or so at E too. i've gone mighty far before on E, with the needle going below the bottom slash. it was a real thrill.

i've never run out of gas, i wonder what it's like.

Darren-
Just out of curiosity, where did you fill up? I had that happen once, too. I was in Fairplay and filled up at 1/4 tank. When I got home to write my mileage down, my receipt said I filled up with 19.2 gallons. I think the pump was rigged

LOL, Mine is the other way.. Due to making addtional "clearance" using pre-historic tools, I have gotten mine to run out of gas about 5 or 10 miles after that orange light of death comes on..

Generally at a Conoco in Highlands Ranch (County Line/Quebec) near work. I have filled at other miscellaneous shops and can consistently put in 19. Sometimes I just prefer to drive a little further with the light on! I can always put in right around 2 gallons, give or take .1-.3, after the auto shut-off. Based on this, none of the pumps have been rigged to be way off. I have seen equal results at every one I've been at.
