I finnally had the time to replace my bruised and battered steering damper, but getting it off was a major PITA. The counter-pin holding in the castle-but took forever to take off; I had to cut it short, then hit it with a screwdriver and BFH. I finally got the pin out, but whats left was taking the stud out of the tie-rod

I never got the damper off, but i'll continue tommarow, WITH a puller tool this time

 

i know the pain..on my 92 the cotter pin broke so i had to break the nut with a drill and then slam away with the pickle fork and a bfh. the end result will really be worth it though. huge differences.

 

Okay, I never got the stud out, even with a pickle fork and BFH. So I tore the damper off the stud, and ripped the damn thing out of there. All thats left is the stud still stuck in the tie-rod. I finally got the Rancho steering stabilizer installed, there is a definite difference in steering and handling.

Glad to hear you got it done and that it rides well ,,minus the grief and swearing that must have accompanied it.

 

Nope, not tackling the OEM bicycle pump anymore, just ripped the thing off; done deal. And no, there was no swearing involved in the installment of the stabilizer.
