Just changes the shift points on the tranny.....used mainly during towing.

Changing the shift points DOES affect traction in snowy conditions to some extent.

Both these guys are blowing smoke. The ECT stands for Electronic Change for Tolls- when you drive through a toll booth, it automatically records your license plate number and bills you later, that way you can drive right through without stopping.

Sorry, couldn't resist being sarcastic, but use the search button- Seek and ye shall find!

The ECT button (which stands for "Electronically Controlled Transmission")
changes the shift points for the automatic transmission. When engaged,
the transmission shifts later, allowing the engine to get to a higher power level and accelerate faster. Gas mileage may be reduced in this mode. Use it when you need to get up to speed faster; for example, to merge into fast moving traffic. My normal position for this switch is ON because I like the extra "pep".

Personally, I think the power mode is healthier for your engine (providing you're not going WOT everytime you take off!). If you were towing with a manual, you'd probably wind 'er up a bit higher than normal anyway, so power mode accomplishes the same thing.
