Hey, I was just wondering what everyone carries in their 4Runners that can be used in a time of an emergency.

My schtuff:

• Frist Aid Kit-basic bandages, burn cream, needles, pins, latex gloves, so for and so on
• Jumper Cables-basic ones, although they will probably never be used, but you never know
• Bungees-Rummer EPDM style, strong with metal hooks
• Mag-Lite-3D cell red light mounted for easy access
• Latern Style Flashlight-Ray-O-Vac light that converts to a latern style light
• Tool Kit-Kit includes pliers, ratchet set, screw driver set, allen set, jewlers screwdrivers, etc.
• Mini Strobe Light-a cool gadget that I picked up at the firehouse. It is run by 1-C sell battery and flashes every 2 seconds. Very very bright. We use them on life vests for water rescue. This is good for attracting attention or alerting of danger
• Fire Scanner-my channels are programmed in along with weather advisories channels
• Cell Phone-Nokia 3390 phone with excellent range
• Blue Fire Light-very very bright light used to go on fire calls. I can use it in a emergency to attract attention. 60,000 candle power
• Vehicle Supplied Tool Kit-for changing spare and so on

This is my list and all that I have for an emergency. What does everyone else have? :fireman:

Seriously though, pretty much the same as you.

-First aid kit
-Air pump
-Reflective triangles and spare tire change equipment
-Tow strap
-CB Radio
-Cell phone
-2 Maglites, spare batteries
-Chocolate and other energy food
-Blankets
-Assortment of tools, wrenches, pocket knives, duct tape, etc.
-Spare drivebelts, oil, tranny fluid, coolant, etc.
-Compass, binoculars, maps

 

I'm a picoholic, so I'll provide links to pics too
Starting from the front and working back:

• Fire extinguisher mounted on drivers floor mat
• Maglite mounted on passenger floor mat
• CB radio for off road communications and emergencies on road
• GPS unit in case I get lost while in the mountains
• Cargo box filled with the following:
  Complete screw driver set, hammer, head lamp, electrical tape, various electrical connectors to fix broken wires, more electrical stuff including huge range of sizes of zip ties, GI shovel, bungee cords, several sets of mechanics gloves, wrenches, sockets, pliers, spare interior bulbs, spare H4 55/60 watt stock bulbs, special long wrench for wheel lugs, 12v compressor, Craftsman heavy duty 1/2" drive impact wrench, complete metric impact wrench sockets, tires gauges, tire inflation/deflation gauge from Griot's, lots more in the cargo box too. Whewwwwwwwww
• Power Tank for airing up tires after trail rides and for an emergency flat repair, or to power the impact wrench
• Two blankets for if I have to grovel in the mud or dirt for a repair, or for laying down in the interior for transporting items
• Left rear side pocket carries butt wipe, first aid kit, tire repair plugs, 30' snatch strap, soap in bottle for after using roll of butt wipe
• Right rear side pocket full size binoculars
• Another fire extinguisher mounted at the far back right

Of course I may have missed a few things here and there, especially in the cargo box.
I don't carry any extra oil in the rig as it has never burned a drop between changes.

 

I never thought of a compass and that. I will have to add that sometime. I will have to get a tub like you Corey and put some stuff in. I do have a shovel, but I only put that in when it snows just in case. I will have to add some more stuff seeing what everyone else has! Cool, thanks guys! :fireman:

I carry a lot to stuff that never gets used, or not yet anyway.

In winter only:

Year round:

full 5 gallon gas can
ABC fire extinguisher
jumper cables,
--all stored in a milk crate at the center of the tailgate for easy access

3 ton floor jack
2 ton OEM bottle jack w/ extension
2 ton jackstands (1 pair)
4 wooden 1x6x18 boards for jacking in sand or snow.
metric 'star' lug wrench, spray paint marking the size my lugs are.
Aluminum alloy Voile skiing shovel (doubles as cheater bar for those really stuck or tight bolts.)
winch accessory kit(tree strap, pulley, shackles, gloves)
11,000 pound nylon ratchet tie down, 30 feet long
20 foot nylon snatch strap
assorted tools from 2 small tool kits, 12 extra sockets up to 26mm, extra screwdrivers, spark plug socket, extensions, leathermans tool, electrical tape, and the ultimate tool... DUCK TAPE.
Clear and black RTV sealant, white grease, red and blue loctite
1 gal of motor oil
1 gal of gear oil and pump
1 gal of undiluded anti-freze
2 gal of purified (distilled) water
long sleve sweat shirt, old jeans, 2 coleman rain ponchos.
Bic cigarette lighter or 2
-- all in 6 milk crates in the bed foreward of wheels

several twin AA flashlights
crappy handheld CB radio
-- in the cab

Wow. Some of you have more stuff in your rig than I do in my house!

Another thing that can be very handy is a hose clamp. You can pick up a few different sizes for a few cents each.

 

Here is something that saved us last year when a rig broke below rocky saddle, welding rod and some modified jumper cables. With 4 batteries you can really get some good welds.

But one thing I am seeing that you guys are missing, parts to repair commonly broken items, like CV's, or U-joints, pieces of runner and plug kits for tires..

I run custom front shafts in my RC44, and the u-joints are welded in, so that increases the chances of busting a U-joint only and not damaging the yoke, so i carry an air grinder and replacement U-joint, plus joints for my drivelines.

 

Tire repair kits can be had cheap if you know where to go.
I picked up a nice one from Wal-Mart last year or so for around $12.

I have seen them elsewhere as high as $40, and the contents are the same as this Victor one from Wal-Mart.

It comes with 20 tire plugs, and also about 5 or so big round patches. Also cement, roughener scrub thingymabobber, and the two handles with a reamer to ream out and roughen up the hole, and the tool for inserting the plug.

This is actually a spare kit in the photos here I picked up a short time back.
Going to give it to my youngest when he gets his license here soon.
In fact I'm putting together an emergency kit/toolbox combo for him to keep in whatever he ends up driving.

I did this for my oldest some last year too. He's got the same kit, and a 12v pump for the tires, and plenty of tools I put together for him to have on hand.

I picked up my new emergency air compressor. I'll try it out next time I need air in the tires.

260 psi, 12-volt power, pressure gauge, emergency light & on/off switch. Nice and compact. Nothing special, but it should do the trick:

Hopefully with those little itty bitty 12v air pushers you guys don't have to bead a tire on the trail....

cell phone
small mag light,need to upsize it though
nylon snatch strap
small air compressor
a few tools
duct tape
a plastic sheet, in case a window is broken
and lots of good luck

I like alot of everybodies suggestions, might add some soon.

 

I've got about 2.15 - 4.45 in change depending on what day during the week. I keep it in a custom location known only as the "ash tray".

That, and frickin sharks with laser beams.

 

I hear ya man! All these air compressors, jacks, Tow2B missles, M-80 with grenade launchers. Damn, that is what I have my AAA card for! LOL...no offense guys. You all carry what you carry and you do it for a reason. I saw some things here I need to get and will add to my stash! Way to go and keep listing! :fireman:

 

Unfortunately an AAA card is only good for the highway.
