Question What do I need to do before I sell my truck?

I just found out today that it is the seller's responsibility to run a smog check on a vehicle before selling. Anything else I'm forgetting?

As I get closer and closer to my decision - leaning in the direction of selling, I'm finding that I don't know as much as I should...

Any pitfalls I should look out for? Take a payment plan? Anything to watch out for from the DMV?

My only other tip is to take off everything that you think you may use on your new truck. Any accessories including floor mats, etc.

You will not recoop the cost of the accessories when you sell it.

If it's like Oregon, the smog check receipt is only good for XX days (30 I think), so hold off until you're certain it's sold. Add a contingency to the deposit receipt that a passing certificate will be provided.

On the Bill of Sale, be absolutely certain to add these magic words: AS IS, no warranties expressed or implied by the seller (you). Then have them sign an extra copy for your records.

Take a payment plan? Meaning act as the bank? If so, all I can say is that I'm done with my adventures in car paper...never again. It spawned another one of my motto's, "Never loan money on anything that moves". If they can't qualify for a car loan on their own, you don't want to sell to them anyway. When it comes to vehicles, another motto comes to mind, "In God we trust, everyone else pays cash."

SLC:
Yeah, I was planning on doing that. Long ago I put some of my OEM stuff away "just in case"
Now I have some nice clean mats to put in there
Still, good point - I'll be taking all the little things I plan on using again off.

Bob:
Again, thanks for the pointers. You've been a GREAT help

Bud:
You make me laugh man

FirstToy:
I think I'm going to go for an '04.
I like the more curved lines. The newer design would grow on me but I make it a point never to buy the 1st version of anything and by the time that happened I'll have lost more value on my truck so...

Okay - still need to think about it but I'm teetering on the edge - ALMOST ready to take the plunge!!!

Definitely!
Spend a nice full weekend over it. Clean the interior spotless... exterior with Zaino or Griot's.
