Well I finally got the sliders welded on. 1 and 3/4" tubing I believe, painted silver and welded on solidly. The guy who made the sliders also made a pair for turboale, and turboale referred me to him. He is based on NC, sliders $150 + very reasonable shipping prices, so for East coast folks he’s the man If you want to contact him: aubain@charter.net.

The sliders look real good.

Someone please correct me if I'm full of $h^t here, but I didn't see any additional support on the round that was welded to the frame. This could be dangerous, and that is no esta bien!

It is my understanding that when you weld the round strait to the frame, it can possibly weaken the frame. I know All pro sliders have the round bar welded strait on, but they provide an additional gusset to increase the vertical strength.


The majority of the sliders I've seen have a square piece welded on to the round, so it looks like a diamond. The welds form a much stronger bond to the frame, and actually increase its strength omni-directional.


I would have the dude add some metal to that, just my .01.

 

A gusset will probably add even more support than the diamond shaped scab plates, but I decided not to do either as I don't wheel a daily driver With 4 sizable support posts welded right to the frame it is more than enough to stand on to wash the roof and protect against door dings.

 

do yourself a favor and weld another gusset. a triangular piece that sits on top of the bar that connects to the frame.

this is to additional support when you do rest the whole vehicle on the bars...

but if it's only for looks... never mind...

Damn!.....those are exactly what I want on my truck.

Don't worry about the gusset....just never let anyone weld on the top or bottom of your frame rails, sides are totally fine even without reinforcement.

 

After driving for a few days with them on now I swear other 4Runner and Tacoma owners stare, there must be lots of lurkers here, otherwise they would not know what they are!

Just few hours ago a pepboys modded late 3rd gen Limited 4Runner that I never seen on here passed me and the guy's head made an 180 degree turn

 

Once I get a chance I'll post photo's of FearToys Frame. specifically where the sliders were welded on at. The tubes were welded directly to the frame, with a vertical gusset, needless to say the sides of the frame were bent in from wheelin. If your gonna play hard offroad then you should add in the diamond plates as well as gussets.

 

Sounds like you are gonna use these like I would but if you are going to play hard like Bruce and Co. do, then I would suggest the diamond reinforcement.....my original statement assumed that you would be using them more for looks than anything else (with perhaps an occasional offroad adventure or two).
