Weird tire question

Ok, I've been looking for tires for a few weeks now and theres one thing I just do not understand. Why is it that A/T tires have much better ratings all across the board then street tires? Traction, cornering, EVERYTHING. I was just comparing these 2 tires and I dont understand it. The A/T Revo seems to be in everyway better than the street/sport tire.. So whats the purpose of the street/sport one?

You would think they'd at least have better dry traction and cornering than an A/T tire though, eh?

This is more out of curiosity than anything.. It was just a trend I noticed while searching for tires

not sure if you also noticed how long the aforementioned tires had been in production... the hp has been around for a long time, and has old school technology, its still a top notch tire in its category, but is far surpassed by all the new technology in the revo... also a lot of whats going on is marketing as well.... bridegstone wants to effectively dominate their market with what they beleive to be their best product. This being dominate also means more $ going their way as opposed to somewhere else....

"have much better ratings all across the board"

From where are you taking these ratings? From the customer feedbacks? I don't see any independent tests from Tirerack where they've put these tires on the track, as they have many others.

These tires and their intended uses are not similar, so to infer that one tire is better than another when comparing dissimilar tires is completely false. You must stay within each tires' class to have any hope of a valid comparison.

The customer ratings compare A/Ts to other A/Ts, and streets to other streets. The feedback shows people like the A/Ts relative to other A/T tires, and have a lesser opinion of the street tires relative to other street tires. The feedback does not show any relationship between A/T and street tires.

The numbered ratings on things like traction, cornering, stability, etc. I thought those numbers came from Bridgestone?

guess I'll go get some revo's today $50 rebate on 'em too

Those numbers on tirerackare user opinions (some manufacturers have numerical ratings per tire as well). And like anything else reviewed online these ratings must be taken with a grain of salt (because of people homering after having their tires for a week or a month and posting 10's on wear).

Those Revos should treat you well.

The tire shop didn't have the revos in stock so I didn't get anything yet. I still can't get the street tires out of my head though.. I keep thinking that maybe I'll give 'em a shot as my truck never sees anything but pavement
