Water injection

Water injection
I e-mailed MaxxAutoworks on this one, but they never e-mailed me back.
I recently read about a Ford Escape that went through a work-up and gained a supercharger, exhaust, etc. The thing that cought my attention was a water injection system. I like the principle, but, does anyone know if the kits are vehicle specific, or, are they universal?
Thanks!

Hello fellow Coloradan!!. Just where does this water get injected. It sounds like some kind of intercooler related thing. Spraying water on the outside of an intercooler would make it more effective, kind of like how sweating while a fan blows on you cools your body temp. In some forms of drag racing they pack their intercoolers with ice to maximize this effect and get the coolest air possible going into the motor.
Just sitting here drinking beer, I can't think of any other place where "injecting" water would do anything useful. Maybe its a coolant/ antifreze system mod of some sort. What do you know about this HaveBlue??

My ex-boss had water injection on his full size blazer some years ago. It was a squirt nozzle mounted in the air cleaner housing to squirt into the carburetor under "load" conditions to reduce engine knock (it cools the combustion)

I had a Holley water injection unit on my '68 327 Chevelle that my dad & I put on it back around '77 or so.
It worked good, and yes, it was setup like Yoda described.
It shot water right into the venturis under a load.
Matt, I wonder how beer would work in that situation
The engine certainly wouldn't be feelin' any ping if there was any

Do a search on the net for Aquamist water injection systems. They are out of the UK. That is a nice system.
When you do your calculations for the amount of water to inject use a figure of 20% of the amount of fuel being injected. Also you will want to inject it after the supercharger impellers not before.

Have Blue was indeed the early name of the F-117 stealth project. I am a big aerospace freak.
I've researched the Aqaumist and like the design. My porblem lies in exactly what Gadget stated. I have to inject the water after the supercharger impellars. I have not been able to find any "mass produced" injection setups for the 3.4. I spoke to a performance shop in Denver, they quoted me $6000 just for customer fabrication. They told me it would be easier if I had a turbo.
I just wanted to see if any one has toyed with the idea more than I have.

Years ago we used water injection. Replummed the winshield washer unit.
Old radial piston engines use to inject ADI (anti-detination injection) during takeoff to cool the engine and reduce ping. I think it was primarily alcohol and water.

You are right. The PW R-2800 was rated at 2200 HP take off dry and 2500 HP take off wet.
It is not an idea that is just used on old aircraft engines. May new ones including jets use it today.

Pete I've heard the same thing. The water injection has proved to be a great influencer in the increase of available HP. I know my brothers have told me similar details as they are engineers who work on a bunch of different military defense stuff (Jets, missiles, etc.) They work for Lockheed Martin (spook and non-spook stuff) Spook is typically classified stuff that they can't talk about but they do let me know about the areas of non-spook stuff that is really cool. And I mean really cool.

I had a chance to work on the SR 71 when I was in the Air Force, but took a transfer to Las Vegas (Nellis) instead.
