Wanna get REALLY PISSED?
This should do it. It appeared in our local Free Press this morning.

In case you can't read the author's comments about the owners of SUVs, here they are:
I'm sure he's just trying to be inflammatory so he gets a lot of attention to sell his book, but.......
I'm not sure I've ever heard a more stupid statement uttered publicly!

I'm sure he's talking about those who don't even know where the 4wd BUTTON is in their trucks, much less how to use it. Or even worse... "OOH, a rain puddle! gotta throw 'er in 4wd for that! Here we go! 'beep'!" Surely he couldn't have been talking about us enthusiasts who will know more about SUV's than he will anyday. I say that book is just one man's rant.

even more so to my point... he probably doesn't even KNOW about our "little" group of enthusiasts, who own and take pride in our vehicles purely for the sport of off-roading... not to gain self confidence like he's suggesting. "Lack driving skills"... what the hell is that? Off roaders have got to be some of the best drivers out there. We know more about our vehicles than most other drivers therefore we'll be safer with them because of that. You won't ever see an off-roader suffer from a blowout on the pavement from incorrect tire pressure, will you? i don't think so. plus, SUV's are hotter on the market today than ever before... so that guy didn't do anything to help his credibility by printing that article.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion. But not everone should express their opinion.
If he had said "MOST" suv drivers are unsafe. I would have agrees. Because MOST SUV drivers do not know the limits of their vehicles. But, since he stated "ALL" SUV drivers are unsafe, this makes me wnat to introduce him to the business end of a crowbar.
He probably observed some statistic that said SUVs are in more accidents. Well, that statement is true given that fact that SUVs nearly out number pickups. In Colorado alone, if I remeber correctly, SUV make up for 5 out of 10 auto sales.
Its the poor dumb bastard flying down iced-over I-70 outside of Genessee that thinks he can stop faster if he's in 4 wheel drive meanwhile mainting 70mph.
Its the poor dumb bastard that drives the Ford Excursion while getting 8mpg that side swipes a family of five on the way to dinner because they misjudged their Excursion's stopping power.
Okay, I'm off my soap-box.
I'll close with this:
Don't let the bastards get you down.

A slanted newspaper article? Who'd have thought? Every single event or story I've personally known about that has been covered by the media has been warped, slanted and completely sensationalized. Every one. I don't wholeheartedly believe anything the media says anymore.
The book is probably fairly well rounded, despite what the newspaper article says.

There is no real threat here; don't be concerned.
First, Keith Bradsure's message will not resonate with the silent majority here in the US.There are far more people who are emotionally dependent on their SUVs and full size trucks than there are people concerned enough about the environment to make any kind of personal sacrifice.
Second, it's obvious to all who come in contact with Keith that he is irrational when it comes to this subject. I've had occassion to talk with Bradsure a number of times while he was still a reporter for the Times. I always found him to be more anxious to sell his "sources" on his point of view rather than just listening...and learning.
He never really understood, or wanted to undarstand, the industry which was his beat. Worse, he never really understood the Joe and Judy lunchbuckets who buy the vast majority of new vehicles every year.
I think he has two things going on with this book. He sees himself as a crusader...a modern day Ralph Nader...on a mission to enlighten the unwashed masses.
I also think he may be trying to make a name for himself.
But it won't be at your expense.

Heck of a way to make a name for himself by trashing the 5 outa 10 people that buy an suv. Even though he would be right if he went after that crowd but he also included people that do this stuff for fun and don't buy suv's so that they have a soccer van on steroids. This guy is a moron...

I don't see that it makes a difference if one percent or ninety-nine percent drive them. Stupid drivers are still stupid drivers and drive many different types of cars. It has nothing to do with SUVs.

Well, maybe this book will be a dividing of the masses and the really scared ones will go back to driving big Ford boats. And the business of SUVs can get back to where it was.
In the mean time I will drive like a scarey
freaking idiot to prove his point.

haha yeah, i was in barnes and noble the other day, and i got mad the 4runner was on the cover. that guy is dumb for making such a stereotype and saying ALL suvs are bad. makes me want to run over his little ford escort (or whatever he probably has). oh wait, i'd probably lose control, roll over then and explode and end up killing 30 people if i did that, according to him.

The funny thing is that if he sounded like he was rational about his assertions and it appeared that he did any good research, I'd probably want to read his book. At least to find out his point of view, if for no other reason. However, with the asinine noises he makes with those statements, I think I'll pass!

Well, I'll tell you this. I have one of the strongest marriages going, after 15 years to my high school sweetheart. I also have high confidence in my parenting skills; I have not run to a book to learn how to do either one of those things, nor do I run to shrink to feel good about myself. I feel good about myself when I look at the family and work I do. I don't need a car to make me feel good. Converserly, Bradsure clearly has some deep seated issues, abviously feeling like he needs to get his name on the front page to have any worth.
On another note, I am in a line of work where I have seen a lot of traffic accidents. Just about any car going against an SUV is going to loose. I don't know if I have seen a single occupant of an SUV killed or seriously injured in the last five years. The math is really very simple: SUV vs CAR=SUV wins, CAR vs Drunk Driver=Drunk Driver wins, CAR vs CAR=Nobody Wins. You see, BIGGER=SAFER FOR THE OCCUPANTS. Some may think that sounds unfair or cold hearted, but we are in a world where we cannot leave our families safety to chance. I will never again own a "family car", I have seen too many people hurt or killed in them. Because, you see, I actually love my family with a passion. Bradsure obviously has no concept of this kind of love, and what it is like to be a REAL MAN and take control of your own families safety and well being.
What a punk!

On another note, do you all remember the liberal little alien (not calling all liberals aliens, I just really think he looks like one) that used to be on CNN's Crossfire, Michael Kinsley? Well, one day I saw him driving around in Renton in a big, beautiful Ford Expedition! I would LOVE to get HIS take on SUV drivers!
