Vortex too loud, Magnaflow?

I've been searching and well, I've had the Vortex on for a while now and I gotta tell ya...it's sweet when accelerating around town, but on the highway trying to pass somebody or on cruise and having to accelerate it is loud and very annoying after a while.

I am thinking of going with a 24" Magnaflow, seems to have a moderate tone, I would still like a little rumble at idle and maybe some when accelerating but at highway I would like for it to be very calm.

It looks like the MPE-11266 is the one I need, there are like 4 different variations of them on Summit. If you could recommend one that'd be great!

Thanks guys,

Fink

24" should be pretty mellow. I had an 18" and really liked it..it just gave a nice tone at idle and smooth sound thru acceleration. I have a 14" now and want my 18" back..

The vortex will be for sale after I get my new muffler on to be sure I like it.

But if you want it, you're the first one thats asked so its yours Tofer. I have no idea about a price but it will be cheap.

I'm wondering if maybe I should go with an 18" then...I don't mind a good throaty sound around town its just on the highway I can't carry on a conversation with a passenger if I'm trying to speed up or pass somebody.

I found the 24" one that I need on Summit, now I'm just wondering about a tip...I have a Magnaflow Stainless one on right now but it turned brown and ugly lookin about a week after I installed it, not sure I wanna spend another $30 on one that's gonna look like crap after a week...any ideas?

fink,

matt localmotion went w/ 18" against a fwe people's advice and thought it was too loud, so he's looking into getting a 24" (last i read).

over the years, and this is just by reading people's feedback and not actually hearing them myself, i categorize the vortex and the magnaflow 18" in the same category. the 24" is a little louder than stock. i have not heard one person say they didnt like the 24" whereas the 18" buyers seem to have issues (20% or so)

Flowmaster Super 40 https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f123/flowmaster-super-40-a-78240/
I plan on getting one myself.
I've heard/read about clogged and blown chambers happening on Magnaflow mufflers so i'd rather not go that route.

I like the Magnaflow 24" muffler a lot. I got the cheap version (not stainless) and it works pretty well. Nice rumble at start up and louder as you step on the gas but otherwise, not very noticeable.

As long as there isn't a drone at highway especially when crusing at 75mph and also passing at 3.5k or higher on the tach.

The Vortex is awesome but with all the highway driving I've been doin it just gets a little annoying.

Sounds like the 24" is the way to go, here's the one that I think I need versus the one that I linked to earlier:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Not as expensive as I thought it would be...it can't ship til the 13th though??

Maybe I'll look somewhere else, thanks for the info guys! A lot of help for sure!

Yeah to be safe I'll go with the 24", I figure it won't be worse than the Vortex and if its the same I can just sell it.

I'll PM cootees right now and see what he says.

Thanks guys!

Anybody else who currently has a 24" (not overall, actual body size) let me know how you like it and if you have any complaints about them.

Thanks again!

call me crazy but it seems that the muffler has actually quieted down a little. I swear I can feel some high end gain, but thats probably all in my head. LOL

I just put the 2.5" x 18" Magnaflow (4" x 9" 18" Body 2-1/2" C/O 11256) on mine 2 weeks ago. There is a slight drone at 60 mph, but not too bad (not enough that my wife complained or even noticed). If I turn off OD (at 60mph), then the rpm's increase, and the sound decreases. Also, it actually gets quieter at 75 mph as the rpms increase a little (similar to running in 3rd at 60mph).

Overall, I have been happy so far.

BTW, I bought mine on ebay for $73 with free shipping from PerformancePeddler and received it in 2 business days.

Magnaflow mufflers do not have chambers plus they use stainless steel mesh for packing which highly reduces the chance of blowing out so I am not sure how they could get clogged. Either way, unlike flowmaster, magnaflow mufflers are stainless and have a lifetime warranty so if clogging or blow out were to happen then it would be cheap to replace it.

Fink, I PM'd you back.

So, should I get the Magnaflow 18'' 24'' or the 24'' 30''? I don't want loud rasp, just the nice deep rumble with most performnce I can get from it. I already have the K&N intake on it right now.
