Dang i wish i had enough for this and the headers!

 

I can confirm its a whole lot lighter than the stock one....I can carry the CF hood myself but needed another person for the stock hood. It does fit like OEM and even has the Toyota stamp under it from when they cloned it. I've had it for around 2 years plus and the only draw back is that its starting to fade at this point and it does wobble a little at highway speeds.

And at $400 its pretty darn cheap.

The stock hood wobbles anyway at highway speeds.

 

Too much "rice" for me BUT anything to reduce upper weight from having a 70lb which, 70lb bumper, and a 40lb skid plate could help.

I may be interested but can fiberglass be coated with some kind of durable and LONG lasting finish?

Whats being used these days that keeps fiberglass as good looking as metal? i.e. Monster trucks, drag cars, etc.?

 

Well it is not fiberglass, it is Carbon Fiber, big differnce.

 

Here are the rest of the pics at its current stage around 2 years plus...Its taken a lot of beating from the sun.....It still looks good in person, just the flash on the camera really brings it out.

looks like it is still in pretty good condition to me. It also looks like real carbon fiber wich will stand up pretty well. Nice looking hood!

don't do it guys. VIS's quality is in the crapper. I owned a VIS hood a while back, the gel coat separated from the weave. Same thing has happened to every VIS hood I've seen that's 8mths-1yr old.

The hood gets waxed on a regular basis...I guess I completely forgot about the underside heat shield because the OEM one didn't have one either. That will be next on the list along with painting the darn thing

 

Don't flame me for this... but I think those carbon fiber hoods on a 4Runner look awful.

 

How about a fiberglass version with integral heat shield? I too don't care for the carbon fiber stock appearance but that is my taste. Fiberglass hoods have been around for 50 years and generally hold up well to heat and vibrations. Yes they crack if abused.

this is crap and it's the common response by VIS.

I waxed my car every 3-4 weeks. That's more often than most ENTHUSIASTS do.

And the gel coat separation began in the areas where the engine heat was least against the hood. Explain that?

It's happened on EVERY VIS HOOD I've seen, every single one, that is 8mths old or older. Explain that? It's not all owner neglect.

I'm serious guys. Go with another company. Anyone. VIS used to be good, not anymore. You can wax it all you want, it's still gonna happen.

hey long, is there anyway to convert the vis hood to a functional scoop to help in venting off heat when parked.

You can get a stock one with a scoop cheaper than that. #1 I personally don't like the way that looks.#2 What difference does the weight really make? It's a 4Runner not a race car? Our stock hood don't weigh that much anyhow? You end up saving a few extra pounds just to put a brush guard or bull bar on, your back to square one? My .02!

 

I never messed with it but it seems you can if you cut the back of the air scoop because it is removable.
