Hmm... I have no idea why it's only giving part of the video. I'm nowhere near my space limit, and if my FTP program can't upload the whole file because there's not enough space, it won't upload any of it. Sorry guys.

Are you sure that's a tow hook?

I'd imagine that an OEM tow hook would be capable of handling the weight of the vehicle it's on.

...and shouldn't that be on the frame somewhere?

Or is it the bumper just wasn't meant to handle something like snow?
I'm curious - anyone know?

yeah the U-shaped channel goes into the uni-body and the brown/rusty part is the actual steel bumper.
Looks like the tow hook was attached to the channel?

that is an amazing video!

well it's not a tow hook intended for that kind of abuse! its to hold the car on a trailer, which it would do just fine.

it's a unibody car so there is no "frame" it was attached to a major part of the car but about an inch infront of where it attaches is a seam that holds the back on (mainly just the bumper). that's where everything came apart.

and yes im sure that's the hook

I doubt very much that that thing is a tow hook. Since when did they put tow hooks on the backs of small cars. What are you gonna tow? What that looks like to me is an exhaust pipe hanger. There would be a rubber isolator attached to that. The rubber isolator attaches inturn to the pipe.

I have two thoughts:

1) How stupid can people be?? "Scary-stupid" comes to mind.

2) Thank God that car doesn't belong to me.

It took me about 10 minutes to get off the floor from laughing so hard. That's one way to take a bumper off..

like i said above, i don't think it's meant for that kind of use. i guess i would also say that it's probably not meant to tow other things with either. however, you can trust me when i say it's a hook of some sort to tie the car down to a trailer or something of that nature. it's not an exhaust hanger.

if you still feel like i don't know what im talking about check out this page that i wrote on my website....feel free to browse the rest of the site as well. i feel im pretty qualified in knowing what is what on that particular car

Thats still not as bad as the girls that decided it would be cool to wrap a tow strap around the windshield of a convertible bug to get a heep off a snow bank. Imagine if that tow strap broke... That would have been one hell of a :pat: in the face!
I agree with you. They should take forward direction. By the way, what kind of tires did they have? It seems to be not a difficult situation. The boys were just playing with snow.
