Hi all,

I need some help or suggestion as to what steps I need to take to correct or resolve this problem. I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner with about 150K miles on it. It has been happening for a while and it got really bad that I think I need to fix it soon. My brake vibrates/shakes when I step on the brake while going 30+ mph either on the freeway or Local Street. Do I need to resurface the rotors?

i would just replace them with oem or brembo blanks. the oem ones are pretty thin.

 

Yeah u could get them turned but there probly just gona warp even faster

 

Having them turned on the machine isnt gonna fix the problem, I highly suggest you get a set of brembo blank rotors and a set of hawk LTS pads. I picked some up off tirerack for -185 to the door and installed them the other day and the difference from the stock crap is amazing. Grandted my T100 weighs more, it is much better nwo than it ever was.

might want to think about doing a tundra swap on teh front. look into it, there are threads all over the place here.

 

Ditto on the Brembos. The OEM rotors are crap. You should be able to pick up a pair on-line for roughly $100. Replacing the pads is a matter of choice, IMHO. I put a set of Performance Friction pads on when I replaced my rotors at 65K miles, although my OEM pads were still like new.

Do a search in the board... Lot's of info on vibration issues during braking as a result of warped rotors.

 

From reading you guys’ replies I guess it is best to replace new rotors. I will have to order a pair of brembo blank rotors maybe from an online store. Do I need to replace the rear as well or just the front to fix the problem?

* Anybody knows any website where I can get good deal on brembo blank rotors and the pads?

* What kind of pads do you guys suggest of getting?

* Lastly, are the rotors pretty easy to replace...do I need to take it to the shop? do I need to do anything else to the rotors when I receive them or they are shipped ready to be installed?

1. Do a Google search for whoever has the best price. It's been about 2 years since I put mine on. They might even be available at a local auto parts place. Try Autozone, if you have any near you.

2. CJM recommended Hawk LTS pads. I have no experience with them. I use the Performance Friction pads (you can get them at Autozone). The OEM pads are ok if you're not trailering. Again, do a board search and you'll see a lot of brake pad recommendations the guys are using and an internet search for best price.

3. I'm not a very good wrench turner but a friend of mine is a FORD mechanic (and I STILL let him touch my Yota...) and he installed them right out of the box, plus the new pads, in about 45 minutes (including the 2 beers). It looked easy enough...

I don't recall what a 2001 Yota has, but you probably have front rotors and rear drums, so...

Before you spend the dollars to replace your setup try re-bedding your pads. This comes from the group of conspiracy theorists that rotors don't warp (they get deposits on them which causes uneven braking - i.e. warping).

I'd give it a 30% chance it works.
