This may be a stupid question, but i just cant find an answer for it. The vacuum tank rusted off from the mounts leaving just a vacuum hose dangling. I capped it off until i get the chance here in the next few days to get a new one. I was just wondering what the purpose of this tank is for and if id be safe driving it like this for a few days?

Dang, vacuum tank? Where is this? Are you talking about the brake booster?

 

It is down in the front drivers side wheel well, it has a vacuum hose leads up to the intake

nope but it was making the motor run rough at idle, seems to be ok since i capped it off, im just worried if i run it for the next couple days it may cause problems down the road. Ive tried to look it up in the Haynes book, but that is just about as useless as a donkey with no legs.
as far as i can see with the manual is that it is a vacuum tank for the ADD system, but i could be wrong

 

It is indeed for the ADD--those are the two ADD VSV's on the fender wall that it is connected to (if we are talking about the same thing). Based on my experience with BMW and Mercedes vacuum systems that are built similarly to do different things, ADD system will probably still go in and out but you may need to race the engine some to get the 4WD light to go on or off. That's a guess, I haven't tried it. Capping it off sure won't hurt anything--leave it in 2WD if you're nervous about getting stuck in between. I honestly doubt that would happen.
