I can not find anywhere that'll take my used coolant. I am not a tree hugger or anything but I figured I'd do the right thing and not just pour in down the sewer. So now I have almost four gallons (I flushed the system once) sitting in my garage. Anyone know a web site or 800 # for this? I remember in California, they were a little more open minded about this.

 

Try a local shop in the area and ask them what to do. They should have a large tank they dump their coolant into, and then a collection agency will pick it up. Not sure if they would let you use it or not.

You could also try a hazardous waste #.

 

The first thing I'd do would be to checkin the blue pages of your local phone book for a waste disposal site.

If there's nothing there, try what 96 Runner suggested.

There also may be info on the antifreeze jug itself. Even if there's no info on there re: disposal, you could still call or e-mail their customer serivce dept., they may have information on where to go.

My county has a household waste disposal site open one saturday a month. Call your county waste folks.

 

Thaks guys, the earth911 worked great. Believe it or not but a local Jiffy Lube will take it. And if they change their minds, I'll shove it down their throats.

 

Dont do that! Just leave them a little surprise while they are closed.

You're lucky... One of the largest waste pick up services here in the PNW went out of business about a year ago (from that Ive been told). That's left all of the Schucks and NAPA parts stores with full oil and coolant tanks and no one to take them.

But, like was said before, you can run it out to the dump yourself, or try one of the other places listed on the earth911 site. Schucks is still on the list for WA state, as is Jiffy Lube. I thought that they used the same pickup service...

You might want to call your Jiffy Lube before heading over there. And there'll sometimes charge you a fee.

pep boys takes used oil here, but if you leave it over night and get caught, its a huge ticket and/or jail time

 

Pep Boys here takes it for free as well. All 6 gallons of mine that I had accumulated, too

Another option would be to check with a radiator repair shop or a local auto repair shop (not a large service shop at a dealer-- they will probably turn you away). Even if you have to pay a nominal fee to get rid of it, it's better to do it the right way than the irresponsible way.

We used to dispose of it for free when I worked at an express lube in college. It was a Texaco, I believe-- not a Stiffy Pube.

 

Autozone in Anaheim California takes it. They may take it everywhere I'm sure though.
