Upgrade to HID?

Well the HID's are bright but not my cup of tea. I honestly prefer my IPF X4's to the HID's. They aren't as bright but they work better for my long night drives. I was flashed countless times and felt bad for anyone in front of me.
The color of the DDM 4500K is still blue to me, it reminds me of the a set of silver stars I had at one point, the glare is similar to the silver stars I've used in the past. These might be better suited for a LightForce conversion but I don't recommend them for use as a plug and play bulb replacement, as the light pattern isn't as good as a nice set of halogen or mixed gas bulb.
I paid $69 shipped from DDM and it took about a week to get.
Will be selling this kit for $50 shipped in the classifieds soon.

hey mountain, that hid kit what bulbs does it have out of curiosity?
and your right, I don't like the idea of converting to hid in a reflector housing, only on projectors. My BMW has a 5,000K HID kit in it, but with the projector lights glare isn't that bad.

when you say this, are you meaning that your lights aren't shining as far (distance/cutoff wise) as the stock bulbs after you point them down?

whenever you convert to hids and leave the lights at the same height the hids will cover further down to road and to the sides because they are brighter. Part of this is glare part of this is the beam. This is why you have to re-aim the lights so not to blind oncoming drivers or drivers in front of you.

Still nothing on a 3rd gen specific headlight upgrade write up, but on the HID front all is not lost. After looking and dismantling (absolute favorite past time) my LF 240's and the HID bulb assemblies I came to the conclusion a LF 240 retro fit was in fact possible.
The HID bulb was torn down to the bulb and leads, the hi/low system removed and bulky adapter discarded. The ceramic bulb base was dremeled and the aluminum base of the LF drilled out then dremeled as well. The fit is snug/tight and the mount depth ideal. I will bond the AL and HID together using a hi-temp adhesive. I though about set screws but was unsure if I could tap a long small hole.

Are those H4 HID bulbs?
You will want to make sure the distance from the base of the heatsink to the arc is the same as the halogen filament or else you'll have poor focus. From the photo it looks like the HID sticks out farther.
I just completed putting 55w H3 HID bulbs into 240s and the focus winds up being pretty good; however, the spot is not as tight as it is with the incan bulbs.
