I have a 1988 Toyota 4runner with a 22RE engine, my brother had it before me.He states "you need to use premuim gas in it to get the best preformance" is this true?

that engine was designed to run jsut fine on 87 octane... hate to say it, but your brother doesnt seem to know much about cars.... if it does run better on 93 octane, that means it has a problem with pinging and knocking and that should be taken care of first.. premium gas in a vehicle that doesnt need it can cuase extra carbon buildup and actually shorten the life of the engine

 

check your gas mi with 93 and with 87 and c whats better
