This is the 199mm conversion and so far I wouldn't see the need to go the the 231's for the type of driving I do. BTW, my truck is supercharged and I am not too light on the throttle

Just a note that I reused the 4Runner anti rattle spring clips as they looked like they would be more effective than the tiny little springs that are used on the Tundra calipers.

I did my Tundra upgrade a couple months ago as well!!

Hey bosco659 I like the Cross Drilled/slotted Rotors you upgraded too> I'll be putting a pair on my truck on the next brake job!!

Here's a couple of shots of my set-up>

I didn't get a chance to paint my rotors before the install>>

I am looking to do the Tundra upgrade myself on my 1996 limited.
I do have a question, does anyone know if the 2000 Tundra calipers are the same ones on the 2002 Sequoia? They seem to come up with the same part number and use the same pads and rotors. I have a line on some 2002 Sequoia calipers and wanted to check to be sure first. Thanks

Ted

Ted, the answer is yes, they might be the same (similar parts were used on both Tundras and Sequoias). Only way to tell is just check the casting number on the side of the calipers you want to buy. You want to find "S13WE" on it somewhere. The 13WL calipers are the larger ones that will also fit, but may require more effort to make them work.

So the brakes on the ltd 4runners are bigger than the other models. And that's why the ltds come with 16's. Q: Are the brakes on the ltds smaller than the tundras'? And if so, by how much?

Tundra rotors and 16" wheeled 4Runner rotors are the same diameter. The calipers are also the same in terms of piston size.

The only difference is the Tundra rotor is a bit thicker and the Tundra pad is a different shape. You do not gain anymore stopping power over the stock 4Runner brakes; you only increase the heat capacity of the front brakes which is excellent if you're always towing heavy loads through urban or mountainous environments.

This maybe worth while on my Tacoma assuming everything is the same as the 4 Runner. When bleeding your brakes is everyone using the Motive bleeder? Ive been hesitant to buy one only because of the sealing issue with cap that goes on the resivior. Which motive bleeder does everyone use? Thanks.

Alot of Taco people use the calipers that are taken off our 4runners when we do the Tundra brake upgrade. If you want to just use the 4runner brakes caliper I have a set off of mine in great condition for cheap.

Ditto.....or there have been people that put the Tundra calipers on too.
It's all what your after, but even the 4runner calipers should be an upgrade.

The limited calipers are a huge upgrade to the 5 lug tacoma owners. I was able to sell mine pretty quickly over at customtacos.com.

For 3rd Gen 4Runners then ( I have the '97 Lmtd), is the following true;

-on stock 16" rims, I can swap in the tundra 199mm calipers with no grinding of the dust shield.
-I'm looking at ordering the Brembo blank rotor (part #25488 I think) or do I have to use a different rotor (ie would the tundrap caliper fit on a stock 16" rotor or does the rotor have to match up with a tundra part number (I'm confused about this).
-brake pads for the above---what about the akebono ceramics? Any issues with squealing etc...Unfortunately I can't get any Hawk pads where I am.
-is it a necessity to replace the brake lines after doing the above?

No, a small amount of grinding may still be required on the dust shield and or calipers themselves (depending on what rim configuration you're going to be running)

Tundra rotors are the same regardless of the caliper size (231mm or 199mm), but the calipers will NOT work with a 4Runner rotor.

Akebono ceramics work great, get those if you can find them.

No.

In red above.

You dont need to trim the dust sheild... you can bend it back a little and they should clear with no probems (I did it)

On my 97 limited there was no triming or bending involved. I was a little disappointed, I had the tin snips and grinder handy.

Notice I said "may", depending on if you wanted to bend or trim the dust shield.

I have 17" rims and want the best biggest OEM brakes i can fit. I'm assuming the newer Sequoia brakes are what I'm looking for right? Can someone give me the part numbers for the calipers and rotors I'd need?....

So just to confirm, the calipers and rotors is all I need and as long as they come from a Tundra or Sequoia they'll bolt right on? What year did they switch to the bigger stock setup? Was it 2002 and up?....

Thanks!
