truck losing power Help needed!
#23
I've got a '95 and am suffering from pretty low mileage. Around 10.8-11.2 so far...I will be filling up either today or tomorrow and will let you know what I get this time.
I am going to be taking it to the dealer within the next week or week and a half to have the 02 sensor checked/replaced (which the head service man Frank SWEARS it's not) and also see if my cat is clogged. I put the rig up on my ramps and shook the entire exhaust system and no rattling or anything happened so...is there any other easy way to see if its clogged without unbolting it?
I'm not suffering any power loss or any performance decrease that is very noticeable other than the obvious horrible acceleration from the 3.slow's.
The stealer SWEARS that the 02 sensor will NOT be causing the bad gas mileage if the Check Engine Light isn't on.
I'm gonna ask em about it today...

Since you changed the plugs, go with a fuel filter next. sometimes dirt can settle in the filter (if it's sat for a couple days) and make it a dog. I had this happen on a 96 Blazer. Changed the filter and then it was fine.
I think all 4runners and Tacomas have a smelly converter. Eveyone seems to mention that. Check the cat after a trip and see it gets red. Good sign then that its plugged.
What about a timing belt. If I remember I read a thread one time that someone said you'd lose power if the belt was wearing. Not sure if that's true but I could see that happening if the belt is worn and the timing with the cams is a little off.
