Trouble getting into 1st gear

Ok, sometimes when im driving and im coming to a stop, it has trouble getting into first gear, I really have to push on it sometimes to get it to go into first. It is a real pain in the ass. I pulled the shifter and looked at the shift seat, and it appears to be ok, its not shattered or broken at all, the only thing is that it has like small little grooves in it, but they dont seem serious. The only other thing i can think of is the synchros. Is there anything i can do to correct this?

just a typical toyota thing...both trucks i've owned didn't like to go into first gear until you stop. probably the synchros.

not much you can do without rebuilding the tranny($$$), maybe try and find some redline MTL gear oil, which is supposed to be great in toyota trannies

Try pulling it into second before you stop and then put it into first, it usually helps in getting it into gear.

may also bee worn shifter bushings... do a search on it... also might want to look into GM Synchromesh, form otehr forums, it has been said its superior to the regular API GL type fluids
